“Probably not. Didn’t you call him for permission last night?”
Busted. “Maybe,” I said nonchalantly.
“Are you upset about my history with him?”
She sounded more unsure of herself now, no longer teasing.
I shook my head to reassure her. “No. I was surprised, but how can I be upset about something that happened before I even knew you existed?”
That made her face brighten as she gave me a quick kiss. “That’s what I was trying to explain last night. Glad you finally get it.”
I shook my head and grinned. “Get to work, you’re going to be late.”
She gave a wave and disappeared. I sat there smiling as I listened to her car fade into the distance.
There was a list of things I needed done. I searched around and found a pen and a piece of paper to start a list.
Talk to Thomas.
Research properties for sale.
Prepare speech to break news to the pack.
Call insurance company to confirm payment deal.
Check bank statement for current balance.
Don’t forget to meet Syd for lunch.
I knew there were things I was missing but it was a start. I could add on to it later. Beginning at the top of the list, I picked up my cell and dialed Thomas.
“Hey man, I take it you found her?”
“Yup, exactly where you said she’d be.”
“In the closet?” he asked sounding worried.
“No, in bed, but at home.”
“Oh good. So, what can I do for you?”
“Wanted to see if you had some free time today to talk.”
“Sure, how about lunch?”
“No can do. I have a lunch date with my beautiful mate.”
“Are you going to ask for my permission?” he joked.
I rolled my eyes. “No. Damn, you sound just like Sydney. She was harassing me about that before she left this morning. Laughing all the way to her car.”
He chuckled. “I’m not surprised. So, do you want to meet sooner then? I’m free now or around two today.”
“Now sounds great. I stayed at Syd’s so I’m only a few minutes away.”
“Closer than you think. I’m still at home. I’ll text you the address.”
“You don’t live at the Alpha House?” I asked.
