“I don’t appreciate being ordered around,” she said.

Somehow I was not surprised by her tone and attitude. I smirked and repeated myself. “Come here, mate.”

“Ruby,” she said again. “I told you, my name is Ruby.”

She sounded defiant, but she came out of the brush and walked towards me. When she got within arms’ reach, I growled possessively and pulled her flush against me. I wasn’t prepared for the shock my senses suffered at her touch.

“Ruby,” I said reverently, feeling her quake in my arms.

My lips felt on fire as they crushed against hers.Mate,my wolf reminded me over and over. I had an overpowering need to possess her in every way possible. She gave entry for my tongue without hesitation, as hers darted into my mouth, swirling along my teeth. My canines immediately elongated, ready to claim her. As she brushed over the sharp points she moaned in pleasure and anticipation.

I pulled her shirt from where it was tucked neatly into her jeans. A sort of frenzy took over the second my hand grazed her bare skin. I had never given much thought to a mate, but always knew I would never deny a true mate if I was lucky enough to find her. Now here she stood. She knew it, I knew it. Nothing else in the world mattered to me in that moment but making her mine.

“Tell me you want this, Ruby,” I said in a gravelly voice, barely holding myself together.

She shook at my mention of her name and stared back at me, equally dreamy-eyed and lust-filled. “Yes. Yes,” she screamed, and I couldn’t wait to hear those words fall from her sweet red lips again. I grinned in anticipation.

She surprised me by showing an aggressive side as she quickly disposed of my clothes, then stepped back to check me out without even blushing. From the smile that spread across her face I was certain that she liked what she saw.

“Take your clothes off, mate,” I demanded. I had never felt so strong or empowered in my entire life. As the middle son of a powerful Alpha I was the most often overlooked and held the least dominance in the pack, always overshadowed by my brothers.

Ruby didn’t even pause as she began a slow, sultry show of stripping for me. My mouth watered at her sight. I had never seen a more beautiful creature. Her untamed red curly hair gave her a wild appeal that I loved.

Unable to stand it anymore I closed the gap once again and devoured her with complete abandon. I didn’t care about my mission. I didn’t care about my brother’s alliance with Westin and refusal to avenge our father’s death. I didn’t care about how exhausted I was physically, having gotten off the plane and walked hundreds of miles to get here. I didn’t care about anything except making this beautiful creature mine. I was so single-focused on her that I gave no thought to the consequences of my actions.

Chapter 4

Bran was a skilled lover. Thinking of him with any other woman drove my wolf to insanity.Mine, she growled in my head. It spurred me on to meet his passion and not back down. There was a small part of me that knew this was crazy, but it was hard to think straight with his hands on my body and his heady scent filling the air as he filled me.

I was nearly blind with desire when his teeth sunk deep into my neck and I groaned in sheer ecstasy. I needed no encouragement to follow his lead and seal a lifetime bond with this man, my one true mate.

The heightened sensitivity as our bond flared caused us both to climax together. It was the greatest feeling in the entire world, and I knew I would do anything to repeat it. I could quickly become addicted and Bran was my drug of choice.

He lovingly cradled me in his arms as we floated down from the seeming other plane of existence we’d just experienced. Neither of us spoke as I basked in the afterglow of our mating.

Mating? I sat up quickly as the reality of the situation came slamming down on me.

“What the hell have we done?” I said aloud, completely shocked.

Bran knitted his brow in frustration. “You are my one true mate, beautiful Ruby. We did what any normal mated pair would do if lucky enough to find a true mate. You are mine.”

He said it like it was the most natural thing in the world, and a part of me knew that was true. I would never deny a true mate. I’d seen first-hand what that looked like in my sister Lizzy.

“Yes, but first I’d have liked to at least known a little more about you than just your name,” I told him obstinately.

“I am sorry if this bothers you, but we will have a lifetime together to get to know each other.” Something dark crossed his features, but he shook it off and smiled.

Reaching up, he tucked a stray hair behind my ear. I sighed. This was really happening. I was mated.

“You are now the most precious thing in the world to me. I have things to do here first, then I will take you home,” he said.

I didn’t think to even ask where home was. I didn’t care. He had said he was a drifter, so how great could that be anyway?

“Hold up. I’m not going anywhere. I have too much counting on me here. I can’t leave,” I said.

“Shhh. This is not something we need to concern ourselves with right now. We can decide what’s best for us later. I was planning to camp here tonight. Would you like to stay?”
