“So beautiful.” Cole trailed his hand down my spine and kissed the area between my shoulder blades before he gripped my hips and lined himself up with my core.

He pushed between my legs to fill me in a single swift movement, burying himself to the hilt. I gasped at the intrusion even though I expected it. The size of him filled me entirely in the most amazing way. I fisted the sheets to stay in place.

A groan of desire burned the back of my throat.

He kept me pinned in place as he drew back so that only the tip of him remained inside of me before he thrust forward again. Moving in long, full thrusts. So damn good. My heart raged like a fucking drum in my chest as I moved to match his tempo. Slow, deep, powerful.

“Yes, yes.”

“I love you,” Cole said as he continued to thrust inside of me, hips pistoning, though he leaned forward to link his fingers through mine.

Sweat broke out along my hairline while heat built inside of me yet again.

The thrill of this moment, of being with him—yes. I’d gotten my paradise. My heart leapt straight into my mouth at the thought. We both had. I hoped it was as good for Cole as it was for me.

We moved together with his body curving over mine to keep me in place. My second orgasm hit a split-second before his, his movements jerky, and we fell over the edge together. It was only right, after all.

After everything.

For the longest time we stayed locked together while I tried to get my lungs to suck in fresh air. When Cole finally roused himself enough to pull out, he sprawled on his back and drew me against him. Our bodies fit together perfectly.

And this house…

How long had I wanted this place? It was perfect in every way, paint peeling and a few boards loose, but full of history and entirely mine.Ours.

Cole chuckled, locking his arm around my shoulder so that I wouldn’t move. “If it’s going to be this good every time, then we are in for a pretty goddamn good afterlife,” he muttered. “Are I say, it’ll be like Heaven?”

“No,” I muttered, settling in beside him. “It’ll be even better.”

EPILOGUE

The first thing I did as the newly appointed Angel of Death was to give Maryanne a raise.

Not like I wanted the position in the first place because I’d been enjoying a pretty sweet retirement when I got the visit from Simon. Still, I wasn’t one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Especially not when it came when I was in a good mood trying to get the garden in the backyard in order.

The offer was extended my way and it only took a splash of convincing to get me to accept. I might be mad with power, though, because once I got my new title, the pleasure from that first order of business…unmatched.

Surely the old crone who manned the main reception desk thought I’d give her the boot right away and replace her with someone a little less odious. The raise was a nice littlefuck you,and we both knew it.

I’d taken the liberty of delivering the news to her in person once I received my new assignment, and she’d given me the usual piercing stare followed by a harrumph of epic proportions. She’d stared down her nose at me, which was a true feat since she sat behind a desk and I stood, before pushing her huge glasses up her nose.

“I hope you don’t expect me to thank you,” she’d said with her usual sour I-just-sucked-a-lemon-like-a-dick expression.

I’d smirked at her. “Not at all. Your continued employment at Styx Corp will be gratitude enough for me.”

Then I’d sauntered away, feeling more confident than I had in ages.

Angel of Death came with immediate perks, it seemed, and it helped my wellbeing immensely. Now Maryanne had no idea whether she was safe or not. Keep her on her toes, I reasoned.

I wasn’t sure I’d ever get used to taking the gold elevator up to my office, though.Myoffice. Not Azrael’s, the giant and over-the-top office with floor-to-ceiling windows and an impressive view of the city below. Now it was my turn to float in the sky.

My second order of business after giving Maryanne her raise was talking to Cole about redecorating.

Wait, back up.

Myrealsecond order of business was changing the terrible jazz elevator music Azrael had picked to something more upbeat and edgy.

After that, my next task was erasing Azrael completely from Styx, so that made Jade-a-fying my office space with the little personal touches that made it mine. Such as my collection of mugs and a state-of-the-art coffee and espresso maker.
