It was everything I’ve ever wanted, my heart’s truest desire.
The inside of the house was just as rough as the outside, but I didn’t care. We could fix it up. It would give us something to do, together. God knows we had the time.
In front of the uncarpeted stairs, Cole wasted no time sweeping me into another mind-blowing kiss, and in it, I felt his fear of possibly never seeing me and his relief of not losing me after all.
The kiss told me everything I needed to know without any words, the mutual sentiment of the emotions neither one of us were good at showing.
Cole lifted me off my feet and walked out of the kitchen, carrying me up the stairs toward the bedroom I knew we claimed as our own. His kiss seared the last of the confusion out of my mind.
A large knot of tension in my chest slowly began to unwind, until it disappeared entirely under the heat of his touch. I broke off to search his face. “Say it again, Cole. I want to hear you say it again.”
His brows furrowed. “What? That I love you?”
“Yes, that. Humor me and say it again. Please,” I urged. “Here in this house of our dreams.”
Because it was his, too, even if he’d never admitted it to me. A normal life for both of us in the most abnormal place. The more he touched me, the less it felt like I’d lost my damn mind, because this was Cole. This was the man I wanted to burn down the world to be with, and now there was nothing standing in our way.
“Bed,” he growled. He dropped me on the edge of the mattress and I bounced, more laughter bursting out of me.
Cole paused for a moment but he didn’t stop touching me. He leaned over me, his fingertips digging into my hips until my chuckle dissolved into a groan of pleasure.
We’re dead.
Right now, it didn’t matter. Nothing mattered except the two of us, and his hotness. This house was ours. This afterlife was ours. And I would never have to try and resist him again.
No more wars. No more crossing lines I never imagined crossing.
We were just two dead souls in love.
He pressed me back into the bed with one hand on my waist and the other tugging at my pants. Dead and wearing pants, too. I buried my nose in the side of his neck and smiled against his skin. He smelled the same way he always had.
“What are you grinning about?” he asked, shifting to slide his tongue between my uplifted lips.
“You can feel me?”
“I’m doing a whole lot of feeling right now.” He slid his hand up to cup my breast and heat kindled inside of me.
This was no dream. Not when he took both breasts in hand, his mouth hot against mine. The kiss stretched on through the edge of eternity, the area between my legs growing wetter by the second. Cole flipped my shirt open deftly, my hips jerking against his as he skimmed a finger over my collarbone.
“Yes. Touch me,” I begged.
“Time for you to stop giving the orders, Jade. Time for you to listen to me for a change,” he growled. Cole followed his demand with a nip against my chin.
The rest of my shirt wrenched from my body and fluttered away before I had a chance to so much as sayyes, sir.
My heart lurched into overdrive against his bare skin when his shirt followed mine. We couldn’t get our clothing off fast enough and, embarrassingly, my giggles were back. My breath came in short gasps as he pulled my bra down and took my nipple in his mouth.
He swept a hand underneath me to cup my ass and lift me closer to his hardness. I arched my back to press my chest closer to his.
“No rushing,” he ordered. “We have all the time in the world for this. I want it to last.”
I widened my legs to get him closer yet. He might want to take his time but I needed closeness. His hands felt like they were everywhere at once.
“I want certain places of yours to visit certain places of me and stay for an extended vacation,” I said once he broke the kiss.
Cole glanced up at me sharply and his brows drew down in a sharp V before he broke out in a smile. “I love that filthy mouth of yours.”
“I know exactly where I want to put it, too.” I wiggled against him.
