The white spots begin, the distorted voices feel like miles away, and everything is black.
Chapter Forty-Five
Noah
The whirring started and we all stepped back, raising our guns because Tommy is the only one who could open the door. We count to fifteen and no one comes out.
“Watch him!” Bubbles yells at a few of the women. As we all run in and the scene before us has us yelling out.
“Medusa!”
“Amelia!”
“Merida!”
When I see Amelia’s eyes flutter open then close, Bubbles is yelling something in the doorway. I’m not paying attention as Irun to TJ and help him beat on Tommy. I want my pound of flesh from him too.
“Doc’s going to be waiting at his office for us.” I hear the words behind me, but it’s not registering. A loud whistle stops us in our tracks. “We need to go now.” Bubbles is pulling us off Tommy. “I need you two to help us. Someone needs to help with Medusa.” I nod and bend down, but I hiss in pain.
“I can’t do it.” I admit defeat.
“It’s okay. You’re healing. Help Tripline with what she needs.” I nod and run in front of him to find Tripline.
“Let’s move son in here with daddy.” Once Amelia is out of the vault, they begin walking faster. I focus on what I’m doing. I push the chair next to Tommy and smack Luka on the face.
“Have fun in hell, motherfuckers.” We leave the vault and grab everything we can of ours then run out to the parking lot. One of the SUVs is gone. “Where is she?” I demand.
“TJ and Bubbles took her to the doctor. We’re heading there now.” Smitty and Derby are next to me. “Let’s go. The women made sure all of the bodies were in the building. The rest of them will meet us.” Derby grabs my hand and we get into an SUV that belongs to Tommy’s men. I sigh as my head hits the headrest.
“She needs to be okay.” I stared out the window as the town began to fade.
“From what I heard, she had a pulse. She was out cold from the loss of oxygen.” I rub my hands down my sweats. I hate that I couldn’t even carry her. I hit my head against the window. ”Hey, Noah. Calm down. We’re almost there.” I have no words. As soon as the vehicle pulls into the parking lot, I open the door before it is even stopped. I run into the door and see TJ pacing the floor.
“What’s wrong?” I demand in a low tone.
“She had no pulse when we got here. The doctor told us to wait here, it could be some time before we hear anything.” I drop to my knees. I can’t lose her.
“Take me not her.”
Chapter Forty-Six
Medusa
“Come on, Merida. I just found you. I can’t lose you.” The voice seems so far away. The deep voice makes me feel whole. I drift back away into nothingness.
The beeping is annoying me and the pain all over my body is making me uncomfortable. I moan.
“Amelia?” My eyes are slowly opening up and I smile when I find Noah and TJ both staring at me. Their heads block the overhead lights. When they move slightly I scrunch up my face. “What’s wrong?” TJ’s voice is full of concern.
“The light is bright.” My voice is muffled through the mask covering my nose and mouth. Noah drops my hand to adjust the light making me sigh happily. “Tommy?”
“Dead along with Luca.” There’s sadness in TJ’s eyes. I move to him and Noah. I ask what else. “Michelle is gone too. DaVinci had to kill her. When she was in the shed with her, Michelle was never patted down because she’s family. She had a gun. Michelle shot Shrink in the stomach and DaVinci heard it. She saw Michelle leaving the shed and it was almost like a western duel. Both of them fired and Michelle got it between the eyes. DaVinci moved quickly, missed getting hit in the same shoulder as you. Shrink is fine and was released from Doc a few days ago.” I feel the tears flowing down. My sister is gone. She truly hated me so much that she’d kill the chosen family who helped us when dad died and mom took off.
“We got the revenge we needed. I’m sorry Michelle is gone, but Tommy told me that she was a DeMarco through and through. I hate that he was right.” The door opens and Doc walks in.
“Well if it isn’t my favorite patient.” He smiles. Doc is the uncle to DaVinci. I guess science nerds run in the family. “How are you feeling?”
“Like I’ve been hit by a truck then thrown in a dryer.”
