“The reason why we haven’t done any tests is because we needed to make sure there was no pregnancy. If you were pregnant then some tests and medicines are harmful. Kristina, you are in fact pregnant. I’ll be having an ultrasound machine brought in so we can get a better look at the baby to see how far along you are.”
“Wait, did you say we’re having a baby?” I stutter.
“Yes. We can administer Tylenol to help with the pain. I can’t give you anything stronger and I’m truly sorry about that.” The doctor seems sympathetic. “I’ll leave you two so you can discuss the news.” The doctor walks out of Kristina’s room.
“How did this happen? I thought we were always protected.” I shake my head, the situation still not making sense.
“You see, when a woman loves a man and they share a special hug…” She laughs, then cries from the pain. I couldn’t help but call her a smartass then laugh with her. “We were. I was on the pill plus condoms. What are we going to do?” She asks, crying.
“We’ll figure it out.” I tell her. “I’m so damn happy.” I hug and kiss her.
“You are?” Kristina seems shocked.
“I love you. You’re my future and now we’re having a baby. I can’t wait to tell the family.” I pull out my phone.
“Can we please wait before we do that? Why can’t we wrap our heads around it first? I want to tell our parents, but let’s see the ultrasound first.”
I agree with her. I know with my nieces and nephews, my sisters were worried about miscarriages in the early months. But I don’t want to think about that. Everything is going to be fine.
“Whatever you want. I can’t believe we’re going to be parents. I’m so happy.” I can’t stop smiling.
A tech comes in with an ultrasound. The moment of truth is here.
We’re having a baby, and we’re about to see it for the first time.

Pregnant!?
Matt and I can hardly get time together as it is. What are we going to do?
The tech comes in with an ultrasound machine, interrupting my internal breakdown.
“Hello. I’m here to do an internal ultrasound to see how far along you are, and then transport is out here to take you to x-ray.”
“Is an x-ray safe for the baby?” I ask.
Matt starts going into some medical mumbo jumbo about how they’ll protect the baby. The tech gets me to move my legs, but I cry out in pain.
“This hurts my back.”
The nurse never came in to give me some Tylenol.
“I’m sorry. Why don’t you let me do all the work?” The tech spreads my legs, tells me there’s going to be some pressure as she sticks a wand up my vagina.
“I’m pretty sure that’s how I ended up pregnant.”
The tech starts laughing while Matt shakes his head. He knows that I’m sarcastic and don’t hold back most of the time. We wait for a couple of minutes before she turns the screen to us.
“Congrats, mom and dad, it looks like you are six weeks pregnant.”
I cry looking at the screen. Matt wipes his cheeks. He’s crying too.
“I can’t confirm for sure, but it’s looking like you’re having twins. There are two sacks.”
I swallow hard.“T-two babies? Oh my God.” I whisper.
