Not able to keep silent, I ask, “Is that what you really want to do?”
With bravado higher than his IQ, Van Hynes slumps back into the chair. He fans his hands over the papers.
“I have here documentation that proves Fonda and Hanna had exemplary work history without any writes-ups or infractions. Both had stellar annual reviews from the prior owner. So, with all of that, I can’t see why they were letgo because of some harmless flirting. I mean, come on, what secretary doesn’t flirt with her boss?”
“A professional one,” I quickly replied.
Van Hynes raises his brow. “Nevertheless, I believe they were let go because of something else.”
“And what might that be?” Braxton inquires.
Van Hynes leans forward, responding, “Discrimination because they aren’t your kind. Yes, they told me about your dirty little secret.”
Braxton tensed, ready to explode but the extra pressure I applied to his hand, kept him in his seat. Shit, if I couldn’t get the pleasure of chopping Fonda and Hanna up, he can’t get it either. At least not yet.
“With one swipe of our claws I can end them right now,” Skia breaks through my thoughts. “You’re sitting here trying to be nice with them, but it’s obvious they wouldn’t give you the same respect. Either you kill them now, or they will keep popping up like rag weeds.”
Chapter 43
Braxton
Did this motherfucker just say discrimination? I know I must have heard him wrong. Tilting my head to the side I stare into Van Hynes calculating eyes. Since he thinks I have a dirty little secret, let me show his ass.
Fonda and Hanna shriek as Van Hynes jumps back in his seat as the yellow eyes of my wolf takes over. I smile, showing him my canines.
“Does this look like I have a dirty little secret?” I ask.
“What the fuck?” Van Hynes gasps
““I have no problem with showing anyone who I really am.”
After glancing at others in the room, I look back to Van Hynes. I’d bet good money that if I cough at this moment, he’d piss in his pants.
Van Hynes tries to hide his fear by saying, “Man, wolf, mutt, whatever, it still doesn’t change the dilemma that you are in. I don’t have a problem with sharing with the outside world who you really are.” He takes a notepad out of his briefcase and writes on it. “If I were you, I’d agree to this number. Pay the ladies, my legal fees, and the extra amount I added because of that night, and we’ll be out of your hair.”
He turns over the sheet of paper, then slides it to me.
Picking it up and looking at the outrageous amount they were expecting, I held in my laughter, showing the contents to Nyah and Levi.
“They have to be out of their fucking minds,” Nyah communicates through our bond.
Levi shields his mouth with his hand as he leans down, then whispers in my ear, “Looks like extortion to me.”
Using the papers to cover my mouth to keep the Three Stooges from reading my lips, I tell Nyah and Levi, “Let this play out. Apparently, the Bobbsey Twins didn’t inform theirlawyerwe have video and recordings of them.”
“Which is why I went to my office,” Nyah informs, placing a thumb drive on the table. “I have enough evidence on there to destroy them.”
“Then let the charade begin,” I chuckle.
Annoyed by our private conversation, Van Hynes asks, “Is there something I should know? I’m not sure why you need a sidebar with thehelp.”
“If I wanted you to know, I would have included you,” I responded.
Van Hynes rolls his eyes like a bitch, saying, “Whatever, do you agree to those terms?”
With a devilish grin, sliding the papers back to him, I reply, “I do not.” Turning to Levi, in a low voice I tell him, “Have security clear this floor. I don’t want there to be any witnesses.”
My Beta is on it, already knowing what is about to happen.
