Once they were gone, Braxton peered at me. “What was that Hillard, Lightfeather thing all about? You are my mate and should be addressed as Mrs. Hillard.”
I giggled, tapping his cheek. “Yes, I am your mate, but in the eyes of the good ole state of Oklahoma my last name will always be Lightfeather until I’m lawfully married under the human laws. So, if you want me to change my last name, then legally marry me.”
“That’s absurd!” Braxton shouts as I walk past him. “Under the eyes of Lord Odin and the other Gods, by being destined mates, we are married!”
Tickled, I threw over my shoulder, “Try telling that to the state of Oklahoma. The jet is waiting for us.”
I giggled, walking past him. Braxton didn’t know it, but I grew up looking at teen magazines and some I probably should have gotten scolded from daddy if he knew. But I often would see photo layouts of some of my favorite crushes and othercelebrities’ wedding photos. I knew early on I didn’t want just a mating ceremony which Braxton and I never had because of our impetuously mating, but I wanted to feel like the fated princess who found her prince where the two of us would express our heartfelt vows to one another before sealing our destiny with a kiss.
Hopefully, Braxton wouldn’t let the ancient ways of our Packs keep him from granting me this one wish.
Epilogue
Braxton
After spending two fabulous weeks in Turks and Caicos, we’re flying back to Tulsa well relaxed and ready to take on what’s ahead of us on our return. Nyah is curled up on the couch I’m sitting on with her head resting on my lap. I softly stroke her hair as she peacefully slumbers.
As each day passed, I fell more in love with Nyah. Her heartbeat is my heartbeat. Her breath is mine. If she was taken from me, I would move Heaven and Hell to find her and bring down a wrath so deadly it would be like an apocalypse began. Never come between an Alpha and his destined mate.
As I glance at the clouds through the cabin window, my mind replays the events we have been through to get to this point. From both of our Packs we’ve dealt with betrayal, hidden truths, and bonds that will last the test of time. I see each ordeal as stepping stones for us to ascend to greater things.
When Levi suggested I buy a hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that was the last thing I wanted to do, but I am so grateful that he pressed me to do so. If I hadn’t, neither one of us would have found our destined mates. It’s funny how fate... or in our case, the Gods have steered our lives, and I am totally thankful.
“Mr. Hillard, we will be landing in less than forty minutes, so you will need to apply your seatbelts soon,” Nita informs, grabbing my attention.
“Thank you, Nita,” I returned.
She politely smiles. “You’re welcome. Can I get you anything in the meantime?”
“Two glasses of champagne will be fine, thank you.”
Nita nods, then asks, “Should I make sure the wolves are prepared for the landing?”
I shake my head. “No, I can do that.”
“Very well, sir.” Nita tries to play it off and remain professional, but I can see the flicker of relief that briefly flashed across her face of not having to go downstairs. While Ballian and Skia have not been aggressive to the staff, their size and animalistic stereotypes still put fear in the others.
As Nita walks back to the head of the cabin, I playfully tickle Nyah’s neck. It takes a few seconds, but she eventually starts to squirm.
“Wake up sleepy head.”
“Have we landed?” Nyah inquires between yawning and stretching.
“Not yet but soon,” I reply as she sits up.
“Okay,” Nyah says through another yawn as she wipes the sleep from her eyes.
Leaning over, I peck her soft lips before standing.
“Where are you going?” Nyah asks, looking up at me with a smirk.
“Downstairs to let Ballian and Skia know that we will be landing shortly so they can stable themselves.” Nyah closes her eyes as I run the back of my hand against her satiny cheek. “I won’t be long. Nita should be back any second with the champagne I ordered for the two of us.”
Walking to the stairs, my mind travels back to our third day at the resort. After everyone at the resort had gotten accustomed to knowing that there were wolves roaming around the premises, they didn’t let that tidbit of information stop their vacation. I even had the maintenance staff post signs around the resort to be aware of wolves crossing. Not something that the guests would expect at a resort in Turks and Caicos but a fair warning that needed to be said.
It was Ballian who suggested that I post the signs. Although neither he nor Skia would intentionally harm anyone, he was adamant about unwelcome touches from humans.
With that in mind, I made sure to have special paths made throughout the resort for just the two of them so they wouldn’t be approached by the resort guests. They were not some type of zoo or circus highlight. If guests were to see the two, it was at dinner time as Nyah, and I sat at the head table with Ballian and Skia by our sides.
