“Yes, Mother,” I tell her, then kiss her cheek.
GeeGee, who Alistair has his arms wrapped around her waist scolds, “I’m happy that all of you are alright, but I ought to whoop your asses for not telling us you were on your way back.” Alistair’s mouth forms an ‘O’ as he tries to slip away from her but GeeGee tightens her arms around him. “Where do you think you’re going? You’re in the perfect spot for me to pop you one.”
“Come on, GeeGee. It was a long flight and I’m tired. I just want to check on my girls, then call it a night. If you want to be mad at anyone, it should be Zar. He is the Boss.”
Zar squints his eyes at him. “Really, Alistair?”
“Hell yeah, really! Are you or are you not the Boss?” Alistair laughs.
As much as I love to watch the two of them go back and forth with each other, I want to check on my lady. Leaning down to Mother’s ear, I whisper, “Which room is Sabre in?”
Mother turns her head to the right, then points to the last door along the wall.
“Thank you, Mother. I’ll see you in the morning. Love you,” I say.
“I love you too, son.”
As Zar and Alistair continue their spat, I quietly remove myself from the group, heading to Sabre’s room.
At the door, I slowly twist the knob, then open it, not wanting to disturb Sabre if she’s sleeping. Entering the room, I close the door, then lock it. When I turn around, I see my heart, my future wife, the mother of my children, sleeping peacefully in the bed. The glow of the television shines on her beautiful face. I inwardly smile as I walk further into the room, then place my duffle bag on the floor, then hang my garment bag on the hook by the door. Removing the ponytail holder, I let my hair fall. Next, I strip down to my boxers, then go over to the bed to pull the covers back. Carefully, I slide into bed with Sabre. I nestle against her back side as I wrap my arm around her waist, pulling her closer to me.
“Xander,” she whispers.
“Yes baby, it’s me,” I say, kissing her hair.
Sabre quickly turns to face me, cupping my cheeks in her palms as she places kisses all over my face.
“Oh, my God you’re here. I was so worried,” she says in between kisses.
Closing my eyes, I savor the feel of her lips against my skin. “I’m here, baby. How have you been feeling?”
Sabre stares into my eyes as she nestles into the crook of my arm. “Physically, I feel fine. The bleeding has subsided a lot and mentally, I’m better now that you are back with me. What happened while you were gone?”
I let out a deep breath. “You know I can’t go into details with you, but we had the meeting. Greg was there.”
Sabre goes still in my embrace. “What did he say?”
“Basically, he said you were his family and we needed to hand you over to him and you know that shit wasn’t going to happen.”
“That brother of mine, that brother of mine,” Sabre murmurs.
Moving on, I tell her, “Shit got hot in Chicago, so we needed to get back here. Our only concern is to make sure you and the ladies are safe, our businesses don’t have any type of impact from this, and our families stay intact.”
“What about Joshua?” she asks.
Moving her hair from her eyes, I reply, “Joshua and his girl are safe. He’ll be calling me soon to talk with you.”
Sabre lets out a sigh of relief. I can sense the wheels spinning in her head.
“So, If you guys came back without telling us, that means this is not over. Eduardo and his people are still coming for us. Xander, I can’t keep putting these people in harm’s way because of the shit Greg has done. I would never forgive myself if something heinous happened to one of them due to Greg’s stupidity.”
I hold her tighter. “Don’t worry about that, me and the others will never let anything happen to any of you. We will protect you all to the death to keep you safe.”
“But Xander...” she starts.
“No buts, Sabre. Now, let’s get some sleep. We’ll finish this in the morning.”
I know she wants to discuss the situation more, but call me selfish, I just want to fall asleep with her in my arms. I softly kiss her full lips. Shit, I missed the feel of them against mine.
