Chapter 13
Xander
After getting wordthe ladies had made it to the safe house without incident, we retreated to Yiannis’ arsenal room located behind a secret door in his study but not before having a good old laugh when Mike told us about GeeGee and Althaia pulling their guns on his men. Honestly, I wouldn’t expect anything less. Those two didn’t play about keeping the family safe. I’m sure if Mother had her pistol, she would’ve had it out as well.
I chuckle imagining what that must’ve looked like. Mike’s men probably didn’t know what to think as two older women held them at gun point. Then again, they are a part of Mike’s crew, so I’m pretty sure they knew how to diffuse the situation without hurting anyone.
“Still no eyes on Santiago,” Tech informs, from behind the desk in the room with two laptops open, sitting on it. He has been trying to find Santiago since we came in here. “But I’ve blocked two hacks that were trying to run profiles on you guys. I’ve added my own firewall on everyone’s information, including the ladies. If someone is able to get past it, I want to meet the motherfucker in person, so I can slit his fucking throat.”
“We’ll worry about that later, right now, I want to send a clear message to Santiago not to fuck with us. I guess getting tranq’d wasn’t enough,” Zar huffs, sliding his gun in the holster under his arm. “What about that prick, Greg?”
“Nothing on him either. The last movement I can detect on either one of them was when they were in Bermuda. Cell phone activity is dead, so they probably got rid of them. The jet that flew them over has returned back to Mexico, which can mean two things,” Tech holds up his pointer finger. “One, they stayed in Mexico, leaving their men to fight or two,” he adds his index finger. “They’ve made their way back across the border using resources to go unnoticed, at least by me and that’s a definite no-no. This just means, it’s time for me to pull a few new tricks out of my sleeve.”
Once I have my weapons secure, I ask, “Where are we hitting first?”
Tech’s taps away at the keyboard before he grins, looking up at me. “Santiago has a furniture warehouse a few blocks off of North Pulaski in Humboldt Park that he uses as a front to move his drugs. He has some other smaller ones around the area, but this one is his main distribution site. If you want to get his attention, that’s the one to hit first.”
“Then that’s exactly what we’re going to do,” I confirm.
Alistair walks up beside me, placing his hand on my shoulder as he gives me one of his crazy smiles. “I know you want to put Santiago down, but that motherfucker tried to take me out. If I get to him first, I won’t kill him, but I will have a little fun with him until you get to me, then you can have the honors of shutting his eyes permanently.”
My own wicked grin spreads across my face. “Deal.”
I could only imagine what Alistair had in store for Santiago, but as for me, there wasn’t going to be any talking, pleading, or any of that shit. I have a bullet in my chamber marked just for his ass if he’s at the warehouse.
Less than an hour later we’re on our way to Humboldt Park. Yiannis and Sebastian stayed at the mansion with Tech. Tech outfitted us earpieces and the same sunglasses he gave us when we paid Trent a visit at his office, when he was fucking with Zar and Nina.
Yiorgos and Basil were so impressed by them, Yiorgos requested to five extra pair for his men who will be flying in from Greece the day after tomorrow.
We take three of the SUVs with me, Zar, Alistair, Frankie, and Hendrix in the first. Mike and his men in the second, and Yiorgos and Basil in the third. Zar tried to convince Yiorgos to ride with us, but Yiorgos declined as he opened the passenger door to the SUV, while Basil opened the drivers, then climbed in.
“If I am to run Chicago, then we need to get a personal feel of the city. Basil doesn’t need to ride around like a tourist, he needs to learn these streets himself and I need to see things clearly as they pass, not from the back window of your vehicle.”
Zar nodded his head in understanding. Yes, we are at war, but Yiorgos and Basil were sent here to do a job as well.
As I drive along the roads to our destination, the sun has begun to set, and the thought of Sabre and our baby occupies my mind. I’m doing this for them. For Sabre because of what she went through and if I don’t eliminate this threat, Santiago will never stop coming after her. For my unborn child, I am doing this for revenge and retribution. Santiago took something from Sabre and I that we will never get back and for that, for my child, he will die.
My nostrils flare as I turn onto the block that leads to the warehouse. The closer we get, the more my adrenaline peaks. There was no plan, no surveillance, no prep time. We are going in guns a blazing. There will be no mercy for any motherfucker who stands with Santiago.
“There it is,” Zar whispers, pointing to the old building with a large sign at the top of it that reads ‘Santiago’s Furniture’.
Static fills our ears from the earpieces before we hear Tech’s voice, “From the feed I accessed, there’s nothing really in the front of the building but some furniture pieces and boxes. It’s more for show in case they get raided. Guards are walking around as workers, some with visible weapons and others with them concealed on their body. I’m sure Santiago has them on notice of you guys, so go in alert and ready to pull your triggers.”
“Got it,” Zar returns, then calls out to Mike. “Mike?”
“What’s up?” Mike replies.
“We’re gonna do this like we did that asshole Trent. You and the fellows take the back and we’ll take the front, then meet in the middle.”
“Roger, that,” Mike says as I see him make a left onto the next block, going towards the alley.
“What do you want Basil and I to do?” Yiorgos’ deep voice questions.
