Xander
Iwoke up before Sabrethis morning. Zar’s tapping on the door earlier roused me out of my sleep. He had brought my change of clothes and informed me that Sebastian had set up the meeting with the Santiago’s. It’s set for Sunday at eight o’clock at night in Bermuda, which is considered neutral territory for the crime families. Since old man Santiago is wanted in the States, Sebastian thought going there would work out better because there was no way we were going to set foot on their home turf.
We’re to meet at a mansion owned by Ivan Pombleski, who acts as a mediator in situations like this. To keep from having a bloodbath on his hands, Ivan strictly enforces no weapons in his place. Only his guards are armed to keep the peace. I thanked Zar for the clothes and information.
“Don’t worry about it, Xander. Tech has already started the intel for the meeting. It’ll give us enough time to put our men in place, plus Mike and the others will be going down a day before us to set up. As long as we have their asses, we’ll make it back in one piece. Tech’s put scramblers on our phones just in case Santiago has someone trying to hack into them. Now Alistair, we’ll probably have to knock his ass out and tie him to his seat. He thinks we’re going to disappear in the Bermuda Triangle.” We both laughed at Alistair’s expense.
I felt better, but just hoped things go smoothly. After Zar left, I jumped in the shower, then threw on a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers before heading out to pick up some breakfast for me and Sabre. Damn that bland ass hospital food.
Sabre turns in the bed to face me as I enter the room an hour later, carrying bags of food and a holder with two freshly squeezed orange juices and two coffees.
“Good morning,” I greet.
She yawns, sitting up. “Good morning”
“I got us breakfast,” I say, holding up the bags.
“Mmmm, smells good. Let me go use the bathroom and I’ll be right back,” she responds, throwing the covers from her tubeless body. The nurse came in last night and removed her IV’s and catheter.
Sitting the bags and drinks on the table, I state, “Wait, let me help you get up.”
“Xander, I’m fine. I promise,” she returns as slides from the bed then stands. “See” She smiles, then goes to the bathroom, closing the door behind her.
While she handles her business, I take the food out of the bags. I didn’t know what she might’ve had a taste for, so I got a little bit of everything. Once done, I sit at the table waiting for her to return. I wasn’t going to start eating without her. Sabre said she was fine, but she still needed to eat to build her strength back up.
A few minutes later, Sabre emerges from the bathroom, looking radiant.
“Oh wow, all of this looks delicious,” she beams as she looks at the scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, croissants, fresh fruit, and other items.
“I just want to make sure you are getting enough supplements to build your strength up,” I state, getting up to pull out her chair.
As I push her seat in, she says, “Well, this is definitely a start.”
Sabre picks up her fork, then digs into the eggs. “Mmmm, these are good.”
I smile as I sit across from her, then pick up my cup of coffee, taking a sip.
“I hope Dr. Abrahams releases me today.”
Sitting the cup down, I grab a piece of bacon, then take a bite before saying, “Well if he does, you’ll be flying to Dallas shortly after.”
“About Dallas?” Sabre questions, placing her fork on the table. “Xander, I can’t leave my family with all of this going on.”
My jaw tightens as I stare at her. Was she serious right now? “So, you’re not going to leave the same family that now has a fucking Cartel looking for you? The same family who brought a leader in the Cartel to your fucking home?” A chuckle leaves me as I shake my head. “You know what, I’m not about to do this back and forth with you. You have two options; one either you get your ass on that plane or two; you stay here with your family and deal with the shit they’ve put you in.” I point my finger at her. “That jet is leaving for Dallas whether you or I on it and if I go, that’s it for us. Don’t call me when shit goes left and believe me sweetheart, it will. But remember this though, it was me who you called to come save you, not your fucking family. My family dropped everything to come here with me, because they know how much you mean to me.”
Tears stream down her face. “Xander you are asking me to choose between you and my family.”
Sabre jumps when I slam my fist on the table. “No! I’m asking you to choose between living or dying because that’s exactly what the fuck is going to happen if you stay!”
“I don’t want to die or lose you,” she sobs.
“Then you need to make a fucking choice,” I tell her. God, I hate to see her cry, but I’m not going to sugar coat shit with her, never have and never will. If she doesn’t get on the jet, then I will go back to Dallas and mourn the loss of our baby and my love for her.
Sabre wipes her tears away as she nods her head up and down. “I’ll go.”
I let out a sigh of relief on the inside.
“Can I call my parents to let them know I’m alright? I’m sure by now they know I’m missing.”
