Zar’s face hardens from my words. I know it was a shitty question to ask especially with him just finding out she’s pregnant, but I need him to really understand how I am feeling right now.
He replies through clenched teeth, “I would make them all suffer before cutting their throats.”
“Fuck that, if that was to ever happen to Hailey, I’m skinning them motherfuckers alive, then pour grain alcohol on their exposed flesh. Then I’m going to douse their asses with vinegar and baking soda just to watch the shit bubble. Then,” Alistair rants before Yiannis stops him.
“That’s enough, son.”
Zar and I fight to hold in our laughs. That damn Alistair with his crazy ass.
“Sabre, you said the clients name is Eduardo Santiago,” Sebastian queries, rubbing his chin.
“Yes.”
“Have you heard of him, Grandfather?” Zar asks, breaking our stare down.
Sebastian lets out a deep breath before replying, “If he has any affiliation to who I’m thinking of, then this is not good.”
“Who, who are you thinking of?” I question in raised tone. “Forgive me, Sebastian. I don’t mean to raise my voice at you.”
“It is okay, Xander. I understand, but what I was saying is that from what Sabre has said and from the last name, I’m wondering if this Eduardo Santiago is related to the Santiago Cartel out of Mexico that’s led by Manuel Santiago. They’ve been here in Chicago as long as we have but they usually stay on their side of town in Little Mexico. And now with the help of Sabre’s brothers, they are looking for her to either scare her into being silent to what she saw or either silence her for good.”
“Over my dead body,” I declare.
Sebastian smirks. “Of course, we would never let it come to that. The Santiago Cartel usually doesn’t venture into our territory, so this has me questioning why he would buy a condo downtown. They know that is our territory, so if Eduardo is trying to set up their operations here, then they must be planning on taking over.”
“Fuck,” Zar hisses.
Sebastian looks over to Yiannis. “Call Yiorgos, it’s time for him to come.”
“But Grandfather we can handle this on our own,” Zar protests. It’s no secret he and Yiorgos didn’t get along, but with this new revelation, it was clear we were going to need all the man-power we could get. From what I heard about the Santiago Cartel, they are some cutthroat motherfuckers who don’t care if they killed your mother, father, or even your fucking dog to get to you.
Yiannis doesn’t say anything as he pulls out his cell phone, then begins to tap at the icons on the screen before stepping out. Zar looks as if he wants to argue more but he keeps his thoughts to himself because he knows once Sebastian lays down an order, that’s it, whether you liked it or not.
“So, what do we do now?” I direct to Sebastian.
“Once Sabre is cleared to leave we will send her back to Dallas with the other ladies. It’s clear that they are looking for her, but luckily she is listed as confidential here, so no one will know she was admitted. I will set up a meeting with Manuel, the head of the Santiago Cartel to try and put an end to all of this. Sabre didn’t know what she walked in on at that condo.”
“And what if they don’t believe that?” Zar jumps in.
Sebastian tilts his head to the side, then smirks at Zar. “Then we remind them why the Greeks have always been at the top of the food chain.”
“Fuck yeah,” Zar co-signs.
Sabre sighs, then says, “I just want this to be over with and if I may ask...please try to spare my brothers. I don’t know what Greg has going on with Eduardo and I don’t know if Joshua has any idea but all in all they are still my brothers and I don’t want to see anything happen to them.”
“Do you think I give a shit about your brothers? Those motherfuckers never liked me and the feeling has always been mutual. I knew I should’ve made your ass get on that plane with me when I moved to Dallas, then we wouldn’t be going through this and our baby would still be alive,” I seethe.
Sabre’s mouth falls open as more tears start to fall. She has never seen this side of me nor have I ever spoken to her that type of way. She wants to try and save those two idiots who never gave a shit about her. She’s always been the one bail them out of jail, because her parents would lay a guilt trip on her. Sabre’s the only one out of all of them to put her family first and because of that we went our separate ways. Well, no more. I’m getting her the hell away from her toxic family once and for all.
The door to the room opens with Yiannis re-entering. “Yiorgos, will be on the next available flight here.”
“Hoorah,” Balthazar sarcastically says, heading for the door.
Sebastian leans over the bed, then takes Sabre’s chin between his fingers. “Don’t worry, little one. We will get all of this settled in no time.”
Zar calls the cleanup crew here to go by the condo to take care of the blood. He then states he will go by there in the morning to get me a change of clothes because he knows I not leaving Sabre’s side tonight. I thank him for that.
I give Tech all the information I knew about Joshua and Greg. Since I didn’t bring my equipment with me and he carries his shit with him everywhere he goes like his wallet, I know he can find out what I want to know. About an hour later, everyone left with Zar, Alistair, Mike and the fellows going to Yiannis’ and Jeeves’ taking Sebastian to his home.
