Once inside, Sabre told them to take me to the first guest room on the first floor of the house. It along with the others had its own master bathroom and with her request, I didn’t have to bother going up and down the stairs.

I didn’t leave the house for three days, not wanting to deal with the outside world. Sabre, Mother, and Karisa patiently took care of me as I dealt with the reality of killing the man who not only took my Father’s life but was fixated on taking hers.

Zar and the rest of the family would stop by to check on me. Yiorgos and Basil dropped in before they went to the airport to fly back to Chicago. While I was appreciative of their concerns, I kept our visits short. They were understanding, but on the third night, Yiannis came by himself.

I was sitting in the den, nursing a stiff drink when I heard the knock on the door. Sabre left Mother and Karisa in the kitchen to see who it was. Moments later, she walked into the den with Yiannis behind her.

“Yiannis is here to see you, baby,” she stated with a smile, then went back to join Mother and Karisa.

“Xander,” Yiannis greeted, coming over to the couch, then sat. “How are you holding up?”

I held up the glass, then said, “This is helping.” I took a sip, then lowered my head.

“I’m sure it is,” he returned. “You know, I tried to find the man who was responsible for Jeroen’s death, and finding out it was Eduardo, I’m sure his father hid him in Mexico afterwards.” Yiannis let out a long sigh. “I wanted to be the one to avenge my friend, my brother’s death, but fate made it so that you, his son would have that honor. With that being said, I’m going to need you to snap out of whatever funk you’re in. Jeroen is probably looking down on you, wondering why you are not rejoicing in ending that motherfuckers life! Look at me, Xander.”

I glanced up and stared into the same eyes Zar and Alistair inherited.

“I am very proud of you and I know Jeroen is too. After he died, I did as much as I could to step in and be the father figure you needed because I knew he would’ve done the same thing for Balthazar and Alistair. I love you like you were my own son.” Tears started to fill his eyes. I couldn’t blink away the ones swelling in mine as they began to fall. “I came by to tell you thank you for getting vengeance for our family. You did the one thing I wasn’t able to do and for that I am forever grateful.”

I sat my glass on the coaster, then leaned over and hugged Yiannis. Together, we wept for my Father. Afterwards, we dried our tears. I poured him up a drink and we spent the next hour retelling stories of the good times when Father was with us.

The next morning, I emerged with a new mind set and physically ready to take on the world. Yiannis’ talk brought life back into me and now my new creed is never will we leave an enemy behind to come for our family. If you posed a threat, then you would be dealt with. Greg is learning that lesson right now. No, I didn’t kill him, but he’s probably wishing I had.

I was so out of it that night on the way back to Zar’s, I didn’t notice Blade and Lethal had taken one of Trappa’s men’s vehicles and left our little convoy, with Greg tied up in the trunk. They took him back to Mike’s security office and had him there the whole time. Leave it to Tech to find incriminating evidence against him that places Greg at the scene when ADA Bowers was killed and all of his other illegal activities.

I chuckle as I remember the look on Greg’s face when Zar, Alistair, and I entered the little room Mike was keeping him in. Greg was sitting on the floor with a blanket under him.

“What’s the matter, Greg? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” I teased.

“Well, you could use some sun,” Alistair kidded with him and Zar laughing.

“Shut up,” I told Alistair, smirking, then focusing back on Greg. “So, how are you liking your accommodations here? I hope my friends have been treating you well.”

Greg’s face twisted with disgust. “Treating me well? How the fuck do you think they’re treating me? Look Xander, I know I fucked up big time, but you have to get me out of here! For three day...” He held up three fingers. “Three days they’ve only given me water and dog food and those two Asian guys keep coming in here speaking some foreign language, pointing and laughing at me. I’m sorry, okay? Think about Sabre. What’s she going to think if you kill me or let them kill me? I’m her baby brother.”

My smile fell when he said Sabre’s name. How dare he have the audacity to think bringing her up would make me have any sympathy for his pussy ass. I rushed over to him, then snatched him up.

“Listen here you little prick, don’t ever think you can use my woman as a bargaining chip. Sabre can’t save your ass now. I hope you’ve gotten used to this little ass room, because the next one you’ll stay in will have a metal sliding door, and I hope you get big burly roommate who’ll have you washing his draws and calling him Daddy.”

Greg’s eyes grew wide as he started to visibly shake. I threw him back on to the blanket.

“I’m done with his ass,” I stated as we left. Greg called out my name, but I kept going. Fuck him.

The next day, Greg was on a private jet back to Chicago with a U.S. Marshall that was friends with Mike. The Marshall had everything needed for the DA to put Greg away for a long time. Last I heard, his rat ass turned State’s evidence against the Santiago Cartel to lower his sentence. They have him in protective custody because the Cartel’s people kept putting hits on him. Greg probably wishes I would’ve killed him in that room, but that would’ve been an easy way out for him. Now his ass has to suffer in the confinements of the prison, steadily watching over his back.

Sabre had talked to Joshua and he told her he spoke with their parents. They were trying to get him to come back to help get Greg out of jail. He said Greg’s bond was so high, it wouldn’t make a difference if his parents put their house up for collateral, they still wouldn’t have enough. When he told them he wasn’t coming back and Greg had to lay in the bed he made, they told him he was no longer their son and if Sabre felt the same way, then there was no reason for her to contact them either. Sabre was sad at first but when she realized she had my family and Joshua to hold her down, she put their bullshit behind her.

When we thought enough time had passed, we went back to Chicago and had a moving company come to her house and pack up the items she wanted to bring back to Dallas. She left all the furniture and appliances and decided to rent it fully furnished. It didn’t take much time for her to get applicants and in the end, she went with a newlywed couple who were just starting out.

While there, she resigned from her real estate firm. They were sad to see her go but wished her well in her future endeavors. She has taken these last two months milling over the ideas of opening her own firm or working for one here in Dallas.

She and the girls have been having a blast being so close together. Yes, I said girls. Mike and Janae have bought a house three houses over from ours and Mother and Karisa have moved into one down the block from ours. Yiannis and Althaia are staying with Zar while their house is being built. At the request of Devyn, Sebastian is staying with Alistair and Hailey as his is under construction too. Finally, things will be how it used to be with all of our families living in close proximity to each other.

“Xander baby, I’m not going to go. I feel fat and bloated,” Sabre says, standing in the bathroom doorway, pulling me from my thoughts of the last two months.

My eyes roam from her beautiful face to her perky breast hidden under her cream colored dress, to her shapely legs, then to the twinkling five carat diamond engagement ring on her left hand. Yes, I proposed to my lady. On the flight back here from Chicago, I surprised her by popping the question while we were in the friendly skies. She cried, I cried and when she said yes, I took her into the private bedroom and made her a member of the mile high club.

“Xander,” Sabre pouts.
