“No Sabre, you can’t go out there.”
“And if I don’t he will kill Sebastian. I can’t let that happen, Karisa. It’s over,” I say, tearing up, placing the gun on the desk.
“Xander will kill me if I let you go out there, please don’t do this,” she pleads with her own tears starting to fall.
“Tell him, I will always love him,” I choke, reaching for the doorknob. Karisa hugs me tight before I open the door.
My steps falter as I see GeeGee and Janae with their weapons aimed at the man holding Sebastian. The right sleeve of his shirt and shoulder is drenched with blood. Dead bodies of the men who came down with the man litter the floor.
“I’m, I’m who you want, please let him go,” I beg, holding my hands up.
GeeGee take a quick glance at me. “Girl, what the hell are you doing?”
“It’s me they want and I can’t let him hurt Sebastian any further.”
“Girl, if you don’t...”
“No GeeGee, it’s fine,” I say with a weak smile.
“Enough talking, get over here now,” the man demands.
Taking a deep breath, I close my eyes, then open them. Slowly, I start to take unsteady steps towards him. He has his left arm locked around Sebastian’s chest and holds the gun with his right hand against Sebastian’s bloody shoulder.
I begin to count my steps, remembering all the good times in my life. Finishing school, becoming a real estate agent, meeting the love of my life. Memories I will always cherish. I don’t know what Eduardo plans to do with me, but I will use those memories to get me through whatever Hell he puts me through.
With every step I take, Sebastian’s eyes stay locked with mine. He has been nothing but nice to me and there is no way I will let the Patriarch of this family die because of me. When I get about fifteen feet away from them, Sebastian’s eyes shift to behind me, then back to mine. In an instance, he tilts his head to the left. I drop to the ground and a gun discharges. Looking up, the man who is holding Sebastian, eyes are wide and in his forehead is a bullet hole. His arms fall from Sebastian as he plummets backwards to the ground.
Looking behind me, there stands Devyn holding one of the guns I brought in from the weapons room.
The pounding of feet coming down the stairs has everyone aiming their guns in that direction. Yiannis appears first followed by, Tech, and Thing One and Two.
“Father,” Yiannis hollers, seeing the blood on Sebastian’s shirt.
Sebastian raises his good arm. “I’m alright, son,” he says, then holds his hand out to Devyn. “Come here, Princess.”
Devyn lowers her gun, then goes to her Grandfather. When she’s close enough, Devyn places the gun in Sebastian’s hand, then hugs him, burying her face in his chest.
“You did good, Princess,” Sebastian softly whispers as he holds her.
“Devyn,” Hailey calls, cautiously walking to her sister. “You, you shot that man.”
Devyn slightly turns her head to see her sister. “Brother always tells me, if someone tries to hurt your family, then you hurt them...but worse. That man hurt my Grandfather, so I hurt him in the worst possible way.”
Yiannis and Tech clear the stairs, rushing over to them.
“Sebastian, let me check your wound,” Tech offers.
“Yes Father, let him check it. It looks like you’ve lost a lot of blood,” Yiannis worries, touching the blood stained sleeve.
Sebastian winces, but states, “Soon, right now we need to get everyone out of here. We don’t know if the Cartel has more men coming.” He then winks at Yiannis. “Son, you know I’ve been through worse. This is like a scratch. Tech grab something to wrap my shoulder with. Ladies, grab only the things you need.”
We make haste going to our rooms. Inside mine, I pick up my purse, then the cell phone off the bed. I stare at it before dropping it to the floor, then stomping it. When it’s a complete shattered mess, I take it into the bathroom and drop it into the toilet. Eduardo might’ve found us this time due to my stupidity for calling my parents, but I won’t give him another chance to find us again.
