“Nina, you take your ass in the room with the others,” GeeGee snaps, pointing her gun towards the room.

“But GeeGee, I can...” Nina barely gets out.

“I know what you can do and that is take your ass in that room! You are pregnant and I for one am not gonna deal with the wrath of Balthazar if he finds out you were in the middle of a gunfight carrying his baby, are you?” GeeGee takes the vest from her hands.

Nina thinks about it for a second, then yanks me toward the room. I kick the door once we’re outside of it.

“It’s Sabre and Nina,” I yell, turning to see GeeGee and Sebastian climb the stairs while Janae watches from the bottom.

Althaia swings the door open to let us in. She then shuts and locks it.

“I brought these just in case,” I say, laying the guns and ammo on the desk except for the 9mm.

Althaia, Ismena, and Karisa choose a weapon, then begin to load them, checking the sights. I stood there in awe at how familiar they were with the guns. If we make it out of this, I’m having Xander teach me how to shoot properly.

“It’s like watching a movie,” Devyn says behind us.

I spin on my heels to see what she was referring to, and on one of the monitors is Tech, Thing One and Two either shooting or fighting the men who have shown up. Glancing at another monitor, I see two vans parked in front of the cabin. I can’t tell how many men were actually in them. The third monitor shows the back door of the cabin and the fourth gives us a side by side view of both sides of the cabin. Lord, please let us get through this.

Devyn is right, it is like watching a movie except these are not actors with their stunt doubles standing in for them. These are men I consider family.

On monitor number three, Thing Two is blocking punches from a man and at the right moment he upper cuts the guy, knocking his head back. He then seizes the opportunity and turns his back, then raises his hand forcibly grabbing the man’s head, bringing it down to where the man’s neck snaps from the force of it hitting Thing Two’s shoulder. Thing Two lets the man’s body drop as he moves on to the next.

My eyes switch to the first monitor. I thought Tech was just your average nerdy guy, but the way he’s dropping bodies with his spot on aim has me thinking otherwise.

Moving to the next monitor, Yiannis lays down a guy who tries to rush him, then spins around, taking down two more. Shit, how many men did they fit into those two vans?

On the last monitor, Thing One has a freakishly large knife, carving up a guy so bad, I put my hands over Devyn’s eyes.

“You don’t need to be watching this,” I tell her as I roll her chair away from the gruesome acts being done.

“Believe me, this is nothing compared to what brothers would be doing if they were here right now,” Devyn says, staring at me with a devious look in her eyes like Alistair. Was his craziness rubbing off on this sweet girl?

“Shit, they’ve gotten to the back door,” Hailey cries.

Karisa yanks the door to the room open, informing the others, “They’re at the back door!” She then slams it shut.

Whipping around, I search the monitors and sure enough, while the guys are fighting, three men are at the door. One slaps a device on the door, then the three move out of view. Seconds later, the foundation shakes as the door is blown from its hinges.

Gunfire erupts from the other side of the door. I try to push down the panic and fear that’s slowly creeping its way in as I look at the ladies. Hailey has Devyn behind her, while Nina, Althaia, Ismena, and Karisa have their guns ready. This is all my fault. I have put these people in danger and if something happens to anyone of them, it would feel as if I was the one who did it to them.

Seconds feel like a lifetime as time passes and the gunfight ensues. Then suddenly it comes to an abrupt stop. I hold my breath as we wait for Yiannis or one of our people to call from the other side for us to come out.

My knees almost give out when I hear a man’s heavy Spanish accented voice yell, “Tell her to come out now!”

“Fuck you! Let him go,” GeeGee yells.

My mouth drops. Does he have one of the guys?

I get my answer when there’s a single gunshot and Sebastian growls out in pain.

“Grandfather,” Devyn sobs as she tries to get around Hailey to get to the door.

“Devyn, no,” Hailey says, wrapping her arms around her sister.

The guy yells again, “Tell her to come out or the next bullet will be higher.”

Karisa blocks the door as I rush to it.
