Chapter 18

Xander

After spending almostan hour in the shower, I get out to dry off. Going back into my room, I put on a pair of boxers. My still damp hair is brushed to the back and I’m exhausted, but before I can turn in for the night, I need to call Sabre.

Picking up my cell phone from the nightstand, I press her number on speed dial, put it on speaker, then sit on the edge of the bed while it rings.

“Xander, where are you?” she rushes out.

“Hey, baby. I’m at the condo,” I return. “I thought you might’ve been asleep by now.”

“Are you serious? None of us can sleep after watching the news. We all breathed a sigh of relief when the news anchor said the club owner and business associates weren’t harmed, but there was no way I was going to fall asleep without hearing your voice first. Why are you at the condo? Why didn’t you guys come back here, are you okay?”

“I’m fine, Sabre. We came back here for safety precautions. We didn’t want Santiago’s men following us back there,” I tell her, getting comfy on the bed.

“That makes sense. So, what happened? The news reported a robbery at the club, but I know otherwise.”

I sigh, rubbing my eyes. “Yeah, it wasn’t a robbery. It was Santiago’s men.”

Sabre’s silent for a few seconds, then asks, “Are you sure you’re okay? What about the others? After the news broadcast, the ladies and I talked a little, then I came to my room.”

“We’re all fine baby, I promise, so let’s move on from that. How were you doing before that? Did you speak to your clients?” I ask.

“Yes, everyone’s still pleased with their homes. Oh, guess what? Joshua called me earlier,” Sabre says, perking up.

“That’s good, Sabre. How’s he doing?”

She snickers in my ear. “He’s fine, but he told me what you guys did at Gina’s. Really, Xander? You couldn’t just knock on the door and say you wanted to talk to him? You guys had poor Gina thinking he was kidnapped and was going to be executed.”

I chuckle recalling that night and the look on Joshua’s face as Alistair held him at gun point was priceless.

“No, we couldn’t do it that way. We didn’t know which side Joshua was on at the time, so we didn’t want to take any chances, but once we found out he wasn’t involved with what happened to you, he was treated with respect.”

“He said almost the same thing. He also wanted me to tell you thank you again for helping him and Gina out.”

“Joshua and I may have had our differences in the past but he’s a good man who got caught up in the streets. With this second chance, I think he’ll turn his life around for the better,” I tell her as yawn escapes me.”

“Somebody sounds tired,” she whispers, sounding sexy.

“I am.”

“Go ahead and get some sleep. I know I’ll be able to sleep now that I’ve talked to you,” she encourages.

“Okay,” I state with a mischievous grin. “I’m going to get some shut eye, but first, tell me what you’re wearing.”

Sabre bursts into giggles. “Xander”

“What? Tell me what you have on.”
