“I don’t have a man and if I did he wouldn’t appreciate you being in here making claims,” Sabre threw back.

I sat my sandwich down on the decorative plate, then picked up one of the napkins to wipe my mouth. “Cut the bullshit Sabre, there is no other man because I amtheman. Now, I have about...” I glanced at my watch. “I have about forty minutes before I have to be back at my office. Let’s not spend the rest of our time with semantics.”

Sabre eyed me with contempt but eventually sat in her chair as I picked my sandwich up and continued to eat. Five minutes later, she was relaxed and continued to eat her lunch. To cut the silence between us, I asked how her day was going and from there our line of communication was opened. From that day on, I had lunch delivered to her office every day. If I couldn’t join her it was because I had business to take care of with Zar. I’d make sure to only order enough food for her. I wasn’t feeding Norman or anyone else but my woman. They could starve for all I cared.

Then came the time for me to meet her parents. Fuck my life...

The day I met Sabre’s family didn’t go over well. As soon as I walked through the door, George and Sybrina were turning up their noses at me. Her brothers Joshua, the oldest and Greg, the younger one, tried to be intimidating with their glares, but I ignored their asses. I wasn’t there to impress them, I was there because my woman wanted me to be. From what I found out about Joshua and Greg, I knew they were two individuals I didn’t want to be around or do business with and brothers or not, I didn’t want Sabre around them either.

Chapter 2

Xander

“Xander,” Zar calls, causing my eyes to shoot towards him.

“What’s up?,” I respond, stretching my legs.

“We’ll be landing in twenty minutes. Where do you want to go first?”

I grab the pen and paper from the back compartment of the seat in front of me and start writing.

“We need to go to Sabre’s house first. Maybe we can find her there. I keep trying her phone but she’s not answering. Tech has been trying to trace it, but keeps coming up with nothing,” I tell him as I finish scribbling her address on the paper, then hand it to him.

Zar takes it, then looks at it. “Okay, I’ll give this to Father and Grandfather so their people will have it once we land and Xander, just keep thinking positive, okay? We’re going to find her.”

I close my eyes, swallowing hard before opening them, then saying, “If something has happened to her, I’m killing every motherfucker who had something to do with it.”

“And we will help you,” Zar declares before walking back to the front of the jet.

Alistair sticks his head around from the seat in front of me, grinning. “Shit, you know I don’t need a reason to kill anyone, but I got your back.”

I bow my head in respect. My family. I consider every man on this plane my family. They didn’t need to be here but they didn’t second guess or question what was going on, they just rode out with me and for that, I am truly indebted to each and every one of them.

Just like Zar said we’re landing at O’Hare airport twenty minutes later. It was close four in the afternoon. When we came down the stairs, Jeeves and several other men from Sebastian’s, Balthazar’s grandfather, detail were waiting for us with SUVs. I used to ask Zar if Jeeves was a robot because the big man never spoke, and he would creep me out as he stood still with his eyes fixated straight ahead, but you knew he was watching the entire room. One day while we were playing catch with Alistair’s football, it landed by his feet. We didn’t know how Jeeves was going to react, but he threw us off when he stooped down, gripped the pigskin, then hurled it back to Alistair. He crushed all of our speculations of him being a robot, he was just a man, granted a large ass man who you knew not to fuck with from the permanent scowl on his face. He has always been dedicated to Sebastian over the years.

Zar, Yiannis, Sebastian, Alistair, Jeeves, and I got into the first SUV and the others got into the other two, headed to Sabre’s house. I’m not gonna even lie and say I wasn’t on pins and needles. Something was up with my woman and I needed to know if she was fucking okay.
