What a nut.

“Let’s get going, and Alistair, if he bolts out the back door, don’t shoot him. You three are to subdue him until we get back there,” Zar instructs, raising his eyebrow at him.

“Yeah, yeah,” Alistair grumbles. “Can’t have any fun.”

I shake my head as we start to move through the darkness. As we approach the garage, I notice a light on in the back window but there is no light at the back door. Lifting the latch to the gate, I slowly push the rusty gate door open. Hendrix and Frankie post up on the sides of the back door as Alistair picks up a lawn chair, sits it about ten feet away from the door, then takes a seat.

Leaving them there, Zar and I creep along the side walkway to the front. Rounding the house, we pause to see if there were any cameras, when we don’t see any, we proceed to the front door. The sound of a television drifts through the door. Luckily, it doesn’t have a peep hole. Zar with his gun ready, presses his back against the frame of the house. I reach over and unscrew the light on the side of the door.

After taking the safety off my Glock 17, I knock. When no one answers, I knock again, but harder. Seconds later, we hear someone come to the door.

“Who is it,” Joshua yells from the other side.

“The police,” I return, disguising my voice.

“What the fuck do y’all want?”

“We heard there’s been some suspicious activity coming from this house. We’d like to ask you a few questions.”

Someone peeks out the blinds, trying to get a look, but without the light they can only see my silhouette. Whoever it is quickly closes them. Next, the sound of muffled voices and rapid movement can be heard moving further into the house.

Turning towards Zar, I hiss, “He’s going to the back.”

“You go check. I’ll stay here in case he doubles back,” he returns.

I nod, then take off to the side of the house. As I clear the corner, I stop dead in my tracks. Joshua and his girl are down on their knees with their hands raised as Alistair has his guns trained on them with Hendrix and Frankie doing the same.

Joshua whips his head in my direction. “Man, what the fuck is going on? Let my old lady go. She ain’t got shit to do with this and where the fuck is my sister?”

Zar steps up beside me as I holster my gun.

“I don’t know, Joshua. She might actually call the real cops and I can’t have that. As for Sabre, she’s safe,” I tell him, then turn to Frankie. “Tie his hands.”

Joshua lowers his hand and tries to jump up, but quickly rethinks his actions when Hendrix presses the barrel of his gun to his girlfriend’s head. She whimpers, closing her eyes.

“Alright, alright, alright,” Joshua concedes, raising his hands again. “Xander, tell your man to remove his gun.”

I give Hendrix a quick nod. He removes the gun from the girls head, taking a step back. As Frankie pulls zip ties from his pocket, Joshua lowers his hands, then places them behind his back. Frankie secures his wrists, pulling the zip tie tight causing Joshua to wince.

Moving in front of Joshua, I tell him, “Now, you’re going to take a ride with us and if she calls the cops, you won’t make it back alive.” Cutting my eyes to her, I add, “I will personally come back and put a bullet in your head. Am I clear?”

She vigorously nods her head up and down.

“Get him up.”

Frankie grabs Joshua’s arm, then pulls him to his feet. He and Hendrix begin to escort him out of the backyard. Alistair stands, then follows them.

“Remember what I told you,” I reiterate to the woman.

“Please don’t hurt him,” she begs as tears fall.

I shrug, smiling at her. “I just want to talk to him, now whether he gets himself hurt, that’s up to Joshua.” Zar walks off as I back away from her with my hand on the butt of my gun. She seems harmless but at this point I don’t trust nobody.

When we make it back to the SUV, Hendrix is sitting on the third row seat, while Alistair and Frankie have Joshua sitting in between them with tape over his mouth in the second row seat. They all have their guns directed at Joshua.

“What’s with the tape,” I ask once Zar and I are in, then start the engine.

Joshua tries to speak, jerking his head towards Alistair, but the tape is prohibiting him.
