Chapter 12
Alistair
Finally, we’re aboutto get Trent’s human trafficking ass. Tonight, will be his demise. There will be no more hiding and no more threats. Trent Ganino has spent his last day on earth. I hope he had a good day, because tonight is going to end badly for him.
I stare out the window of the new SUV we’re riding in heading to Copper Canyon, then back down at my pistol as I clean it. An hour after the cleanup crew came to take the bodies away, Nina called Zar to tell him the police were there asking questions about the shooting. Zar told her to give the phone to one of them. He answered the cops questions, letting him know he didn’t know who the shooter was, nor had he ever seen the men in the car before. The cop relayed they found the vehicle several miles away, shot up, and the occupants weren’t inside. When asked if he knew anything about that, Zar simply replied, “No.” The officer told Zar he wanted us to come by the station within the next few days to finish filling out the report.
After the call, Zar had two new SUVS sent to the club. He didn’t want the other ones drawing any unnecessary attention, with the bullet holes in them.
Now we’re on our way to Zar’s, to get our gear and Beast. Tech was able to track Trent’s phone. He’s in a part of the city highly populated by the Italians. No worries though, we’ll see him later. Xander gave Tech the address to Trent’s new club, so Mike and the rest of his crew could check it out. They’re already on their way there to set up.
My phone starts to vibrate in my pocket. I lay my gun on my lap, to pull it out. I smile when I see Η καρδι? μου on the screen.
“Hello, Η καρδι? μου,” I greet.
“Alistair, why didn’t you call me to say you were okay? I wanted to call sooner, but after the police left, Nina said to give you guys some time to get your ducks in a row. Devyn and I have been worried sick.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t call, today has been crazy. I didn’t mean to make you and Devyn worry about me. I’m fine, okay? Where’s Devyn now,” I ask, feeling like a dick.
“She’s watching a movie with GeeGee and the others. I came into the kitchen to call you. Are you sure you’re okay,” Hailey whispers?
“Baby, I promise, I’m fine. We’re on our way to handle some business, but we’ll be back as soon as we can. Tell Devyn I’m fine and I’ll see her soon,” I vow. I’m met with silence. “Hailey”
“I’m here. It’s just...”
Her low tone has me sitting up in my seat.
“What is it, Η καρδι? μου?”
“It’s just, when I heard about the shooting my heart dropped. I was like, please God, let him be safe, please don’t take my love away. I wanted to come downstairs to see if you were okay, but GeeGee wouldn’t let any of us leave. Then you didn’t call. Nina assured me you were fine, but I needed for you to call me. I understand the dynamics of the family, but I am not married to Nina, I’m married to you. I needed to hear your voice Alistair, so I would know for myself you weren’t hurt. If we’re going to make this work, you can’t leave me in the dark like that. I know this whole relationship and marriage is new to you, hell it’s new to me, but Alistair, you have to communicate things like that to me,” Hailey confesses.
I sit back in my seat. I hadn’t realized how what happened would affect her or Devyn. I assumed Nina relaying we were okay would be enough, but now I know it wasn’t. I never want Hailey or Devyn to wonder if I will make it back to them, because I’m going to do my damnedest to do so. Wait, did Hailey just say I was her love?
“You love me,” I whisper.
“Damn it, Alistair! Here you go again! I said some pretty deep shit to you, and all you heard was that you are my love. Yes, I love you, crazy man, but if you pull this shit again, I might reconsider.”
I laugh, shaking my head. “Nope, no take backs. You can never take your love away from me, Mrs. Kourakos and just to be clear, I heard everything you said. I promise it won’t happen again. Oh, and for the record, I love you too.”
“You better love me after all you’ve put me through. Once you make a woman a Kourakos, there’s no turning back,” Hailey states, giggling.
“No truer words have ever been spoken,” I loudly chuckle. Zar turns in his seat giving me a crazy look. I wink at him. He closes his eyes as he faces forward.
The SUV slows down as we pass through the gate to our houses.
“Η καρδι? μου, once we’re done with this bullshit, I’m coming home to you so you can show me how much you love me. Plus, you still owe me a lap dance, and just the thought of that will make me fight my way back to you.”
“Well, here’s an extra incentive for you, if you make it back in one piece. I’ll let you and Frank have your way with me, and I do mean, have your way,” she seductively purrs.
Frank springs to life behind my slacks as I clear my throat. Shit. My fingers slide off the button for the window as I try to let it down, I suddenly feel hot and flushed.
“Alistair, you alright back there,” Xander asks, peering through the rearview mirror.
“Yeah, I’m good. Just needed some fresh air,” I lied. Hailey laughs in my ear. “You’re going to pay for that, matter of fact, be naked when I get home.”
Hailey hysterically laughs before asking, “Anything else?”
“Yes, tell me you love me again.”
