Epilogue
Alistair
As time seemed to quicklypass us by, Hailey and Devyn have gotten back into their routine, since the shit with Andre and Milah no longer plagues them. When we returned to Zar’s house after leaving the Boys and Girls Club, Devyn was asleep in one of the guest rooms and the ladies were waiting for us. Not wanting to keep anything from Hailey, I told her everything that had transpired. The only tear that fell from her, was what I relayed what her mother said. When I was done, she quickly wiped it away, saying, “Now their bullshit can’t affect Devyn anymore.”
Hailey considered sending Devyn to another Psychologist to help her, but Devyn declined saying she was comfortable with talking to Hailey, because they both had been through the same thing. Hailey took it a step further and had both of them seeing the same therapist. Even though she was qualified to treat Devyn, Hailey thought they would both benefit from getting help from an outside source. It’s helped them both tremendously.
I finally agreed with Hailey to keep her practice at the home office. After the shit with Milah popping up at Devyn’s school, I preferred her to be closer than in the city.
The next morning, after I took out Andre and Milah, on the early news they reported the building had caught fire. The fire inspector stated that it was probably from old wiring. They didn’t mention anything about the bodies, so I can only assume Trappa’s people disposed of them before the fire, but either way, I really didn’t care.
Mother, Father, and Grandfather arrived at Zar’s house just before sunrise, and when we got there for breakfast, she pulled me to the side, fussing that I should’ve left Hailey and Devyn’s mother for her and GeeGee. It was comical, but I knew she was serious. I could only imagine what the two of them would have done to Milah. People only see their motherly smiles, wholesome hugs, and great meals, but on the other side of the coin are two different, vicious women, who will cut you down for their family.
Later that day, Hailey and I sat Devyn down to let her know her parents wouldn’t be contacting or coming after her anymore. I felt we shouldn’t tell her they were dead, but honestly, I think she already knew what happened to them. She leapt from her seat, hugging me, then Hailey.
Zar has been waiting on Trent’s people to retaliate for killing him, but they’ve been silent. I think they were glad they didn’t have to deal with his cocky ass anymore. Last we heard, one of the families from New York had taken over his family's operations. We were cool with that as long as they remembered who ran Dallas.
Today however, was going to be a good day. It’s Thanksgiving. Hailey and Devyn had left me hours ago, to help Mother, GeeGee, and the other ladies finish preparing our holiday meal.
Xander has been in his feelings after finding out Sabre had chosen to stay with her family for the holiday. I felt bad for him, but that’s what comes with having a long distance relationship. Sometimes shit doesn't fall into place how you want it to.
After getting up and taking a shower, I put on a pair of dark blue jeans, a v-neck white t-shirt, and white Air Max. There was going to be family and friends around, so I saw no reason to get overly dressed in my normal suit attire.
Jumping into my car, I drive the two blocks over to Zar’s house. As usual I’m the last one to arrive. I snicker as I shut off the engine. They should be used to it by now. No party or dinner ever started until I showed my face.
I entered the code in Zar’s security panel and opened the door. The whoops and hollers from the men in the den, probably watching the Thanksgiving football games, has me shaking my head as I close the door.
Walking towards the den, I stop when Devyn comes from the kitchen, smiling when she sees me.
“Αδερφ?ς (Brother), I was hoping you were going to make it before we sat down to eat,” she says.
I bend down towards her. “Seriously, do you think I would miss our first Thanksgiving as a family, Μικρ? αδελφ? (little sister)?”
She giggles. “No, but I know you had a stressful week at work, and sometimes you have to sleep it off. Honestly, I don’t think anyone would’ve been mad if you showed up late.”
“Well, there was no way I was going to show up late for whatever you, GeeGee, Mother, and the other ladies prepared for today. Had I slept through it, I would’ve spent the next year hearing about what I missed.”
“That’s true,” she laughs, taking my hand, leading me to the kitchen.
My mouth starts to water from the amazing aromas, as we get closer. As we enter, the ladies are sitting at the table snacking on a fruit tray and drinking mimosas.
“Look who I found,” Devyn beams.
“It’s about time you brought your narrow ass over here,” GeeGee teases as she pops a grape in her mouth, winking at me. Mother and the ladies laugh as Hailey rises from her seat, coming towards me.
“Hey, you,” she greets, then gives me a welcoming peck on the lips
“Η καρδι? μου (my heart),” I return, smiling.
“You three are too cute together,” Mother gushes, clapping her hands together.
“Thank you, Mother,” I say, walking over and placing a kiss on her cheek, then GeeGee’s.
“And hey to my other beautiful sisters,” I tell Nina and Janae as I lean down and hug their shoulders.
“Hey, Alistair,” they say at the same time.
Standing erect, I inhale deep. It smells heavenly in here.
