My nostrils flare as I whip around, going for the door.
“Alistair, get your ass back here right now,” Zar demands. When I ignore him, I hear his footsteps stomping behind. He snatches my arm, stopping me.
Zar and I haven’t fought since we were kids, and back then he would never fight me back; but the way he’s looking at me, I think he would fight me right now, to keep me from walking out that door.
“You’re going to bring your ass back in here and we are going to come up with a plan. I won’t let you go after him like you did the last time. That motherfucker is probably banking on you showing up after what happened earlier. You’re one crazy motherfucker little Brother, but I can’t let you run over there based on your emotions. If they hurt you, the news will be reporting a blood bath.”
Hailey walks over, wrapping her arms around my waist. “Baby, please listen to Balthazar. I won’t be able to live with myself if something happened to you, because you were trying to protect me and Devyn.”
“That’s what I’m supposed to do! You and Devyn are my responsibility! I should’ve put a bullet in Andre’s head instead of his knee,” I tell her.
Zar moves his hand from my arm to my shoulder, gripping it. “Alistair, Hailey and Devyn are not just your responsibility, but ours too. We are a family, and we’re responsible for each and every one of us. Come back into the living room so as a family, we can figure out how to deal with the cancer that’s threatening our family.”
I let out a deep breath, then look down at Hailey. She nods, smiling at me. I nod back before looking at Zar. He was only trying to look out for us, and I couldn’t be mad at him for it. He’s ready to go to war with me, just like I was ready with him, with Trent.
“Okay,” I agree, then smirk, asking, “What did you say to Hailey’s mother when you leaned into her car?”
The left side of his mouth lifts as he replies, “I told her that she had thirty seconds to get her ass away from here, before I let GeeGee loose on her ass.”
We laugh as he gives my shoulder one last squeeze before releasing it. I hug Hailey close to me as we walk back to the den. We better come up with one hell of a plan quickly, because the countdown for Andre Varner’s life above ground has started.
