Chapter 11
Balthazar Kourakos
“Where the fuck is he,” I roar, slamming my fist down on my desk.
Three days, it’s been three fucking days since Trent did his little drive by Saturday night. As Xander and Tech have been working diligently to find his location, I’ve had his house and businesses staked out, only for his ass not to go near any of them. His ass is hiding in plain sight, I just have to find him.
“We’re still looking for him, Zar,” Xander states, rubbing his temple.
We’re in my main office, located in the building with the condos. We have been staying in the condos since that night. GeeGee and Devyn are here with us too. I had Brian bring them here the next day. Alistair, nor I, felt comfortable leaving them at the house without either one of us being around. Mike and Janae have been staying in the guest condo so she can be here with the ladies. Our two floors have been put on lockdown. No one is allowed to come up unless I give permission. Any deliveries that come are left at the front desk on the main floor. Mike, with his handy items, has given us a wand that screens packages for bombs or other devices.
Having Trent’s ass lurking around has halted Nina from being up close and personal with the rebuild of Mystique. Now she has to do everything virtually. Alistair has taken Devyn physically out of school for the week, but with how high tech the private school is, she too can do her classes virtually. This shit with Trent needs to end, so we can go back to our normal lives.
Frustrated, I ask Xander, “What has Tech come up with from the security feed?”
“He’s broken it down frame by frame, hoping to find something on the car to identify the owner, but it seems all markings were removed.”
I sigh, contemplating my next move. “Fuck it, we’re going to have to flush his ass out. We know his businesses are still up and running, so I’m thinking we hit them all at the same time. Mike, can you have Tech freeze all of his personal and business accounts?”
“He should be able to,” Mike answers.
“Good, once we cut off his money, he’ll come looking for us. Xander, put men on his spots tonight. At midnight, I want all of his shit shut down,” I order.
“What do you want me to do,” Alistair queries, raising his brow.
“I want you by my side. While shits going down tonight, you, Xander, and I, will be waiting for Trent to come calling, and he will. As for now, we need to go check on a new shipment of weapons.” I glanced at my watch. “It’s eleven now, we’ll meet back here at five this afternoon.”
Mike stands, and adds, “I’ll have Tech, Lethal, Venom, and Blade come to the condo. We’ll set up our equipment there. Lethal, Venom, and Blade will probably want to ride out with your men tonight.”
“The more the merrier,” I say, standing too.
As we left the office, Mike typed in the code to the stairway to go up to the condos, while Xander inserted his keycard for our private elevator. When we made it to the main level, Hendrix and Frankie stepped out first, making sure everything was all clear. Valet had Hendrix’s Yukon and Xander’s Tahoe waiting on us when we walked out of the building.
It’s as if everything went into slow motion as we started toward the vehicles. There was a sound of tires burning rubber.
“Balthazar,” Alistair yells, knocking me to the ground on the side of Xander’s SUV, as the same car from Saturday night comes barreling towards us. Trent’s hanging out of the window, firing shots. Bullets rattle the SUV’s. Pedestrian’s scream in hysterics, trying to find cover, as Alistair and the others return firepower, causing Trent to duck back into the car. The windows shatter as bullets hit them. The car is damn near on three wheels as it tries to get away.
“Balthazar, brother, are you okay,” Alistair worries as he rushes over to help me up. He starts to check me for wounds, but I brush his hands off.
“I’m fine! Get in the fucking vehicles! We’re going after their asses,” I snarl, snatching the door open.
Xander runs around to the driver’s side, as Alistair jumps in the back. Xander slams his foot on the gas pedal before he throws the SUV in drive, causing the wheels to spin with smoke coming from the tires. He takes off with Hendrix and Frankie behind us.
My cell phone begins to ring as we cut through traffic. Glancing at it, I see it’s Nina.
“Hey baby, let me call you back,” I tell her, and hang up.
She calls right back. I picked up again.
“Nina, now is not a good time.”
“Balthazar Kourakos, if you hang up on me again, you and I are going to have a problem. Now, what the hell is going on. The front desk just called and said the whole building is on lockdown because of gunshots,” she fumes.
“That motherfucker Trent just tried to do a drive-by on us. We’re fine, but looking for his ass, so let me focus on this and I promise I will call you back soon. And Nina, none of you are to leave the condos. Please don’t make me have GeeGee to babysit you grown ass women.”
There’s silence until she says, “You're tripping, but it’s cool. Just call me back when you can.” She ends the call.
I know she didn’t like that last line, but I will call GeeGee if I have too.
