“Thank you,” I say back. As she picks up the phone, I add, “Also, can you make sure I have the last quarterly reports on the residential properties, as well as next month’s expected percentages for the new condo development on the east side. It’s just about finished and I need to see what the accountant is expecting, compared to what my numbers are coming up to.”

Penny nods. “I’ll have those emailed to you by the end of the day.”

“Appreciate it, have a good rest of your day and weekend,” I tell her as I leave the office, heading towards the elevators.

My office is on the seventh floor, and by the time I get to the lobby, the valet should have my car waiting for me. We own the entire seventh floor. Zar has an office on the same floor as mine, but he barely uses it. He mostly likes to use his office at Elite. Xander’s office is down the hall from his. He actually uses space. Although we all have business’ together, we also have our own individual business enterprises. The floor above the offices is where our condos are located. It was quite convenient after finishing work late. Our personal keycards that only Zar, Xander, Frankie, Hendrix, and I have, grants us access to a private elevator that takes us up to the eighth floor.

When I got downstairs, my silver Audi A6 was waiting on me. After tipping the valet, I got in and headed towards Copper Canyon to pick up my little sister.

As I pulled up to the school the bell rang, letting the kids out for the day. Thank goodness the rain had stopped on my way here. I parked in the car line with parents waiting for their kids to come barreling out the school door. A few minutes pass when Devyn comes out, laughing with one of her new friends. I happily smile like a proud parent. It’s good to see her in this element, but my smile is replaced with a frown when some little asshole comes up behind Devyn and pushes her, causing her to stumble down the stairs. Her friend catches her arm as she trips over her feet. The little asshole is saying something with a twisted face to Devyn. Before I know it, I’m out of my car, stalking towards them.

“You don’t belong here,” the boy hisses.

Devyn straightens her backpack before saying, “I belong wherever I want, and if you put your hands on me again...”

“What? What are you going to do darkie?” he asks, getting in her face as his friends and other kids crowd around.

“She’s not going to do anything, but I will pay one of the bigger boys around here to beat your ass if you fuck with my little sister again,” I promise, nudging him away from Devyn.

His face turns beet red as he takes in my size. He better be glad I can’t put my hands on him. Shit, if GeeGee was here, she wouldn’t have hesitated to knock some sense into him.

“Is there a problem, Lucas,” a big burly man who looks like the older version of the boy asks, walking up next to him.

“Yes, this man pushed me, then said he would pay people to jump me,” the boy relays.

The man snaps his head in my direction. I move Devyn behind me, then square my shoulders, tilting my head to the side.

“You threatened and touched my son,” he says in a menacing tone.

“First of all, I moved your son out of my little sister’s face. Second, yes, I told him if he fucked with her again, I would pay the bigger boys to beat his ass,” I retell with a smirk. He frowns at me. I know his type. Just like his son, he’s a bully. It’s a shame he’s teaching the boy to be an asshole like him. They think because of their large sizes, they can intimidate people, but I got news for both of them; Devyn’s not weak, and if I hadn’t shown up, she probably would’ve clocked his ass, but I don’t want her fighting. She is the princess of our family, and we fight her battles. This father and son were going to learn a lesson in giving respect today.

Another man approaches and touches the burly guy's arm. “Sal, I saw the whole thing. Tristan pushed the girl down the steps.”

Sal snatches his arm away. “I don’t give a shit! This motherfucker threatened my son!” He gives the guy a deathly stare.

The guy holds his hands up. “I’m just trying to tell you what happened.”

“So, he pushed her, who fucking cares. That doesn’t mean this jackoff can make idle threats,” Sal seethes, now glaring at me.

I smile. “I don’t make idle threats, Sal. Shit, the way I feel right now, I’m tempted to pay the boys to beat both of your asses.”

“Now you want to threaten me,” Sal barks, getting in my personal space. “If you’re not careful, you and that little black...” He pokes my chest with his finger. Big fucking mistake.

I grab his finger, snapping it, hearing bones pop, then snatch hold of his hand, twisting it as I hold it up in the air. Sal drops to one knee, crying out. Everyone gasps at the big man being taken down.

“Dad,” Tristan yells.

“Tell your boy to step back, or I’ll snap your wrist too,” I ordered.

Sal raises his other hand, motioning for Tristan to move back. “It’s okay, son.”

“Seriously Alistair, at the school,” I hear Zar ask behind me.

I roll my eyes. Where in the hell did he come from?

“It wasn’t my fault this time, Balthazar. This asshole’s son pushed Devyn down the steps and called her a racial slur. When I tried to intervene, dear old dad here got confrontational. And why are you here,” I question, peeking over my shoulder at him and Xander. Both are in workout gear, so they must’ve been coming from the gym.

“Xander and I were passing by, but that’s beside the point. Which kid was it,” Zar hisses?
