I look up at the clear night sky. With Andre gone, I can bring Hailey and Devyn back with me. He was no longer a threat to them. I guess having a permanent limp will have you re-evaluating your life choices. The bullshit with Trent, I wasn’t worried about. Once he shows his beady little head, Zar’s going to cut it off. If he comes for mine, his people will have a fresh grave next to his grandfather’s.
Putting the phone back into my pocket, I go back inside. I smile back at the hostess as she greets me. Making my way to our booth, I slow my steps as I see the asshole and one of his friends standing in front of it talking to Hailey.
“Like I said, I’m married but thank you for the compliment,” I hear Hailey tell them.
The asshole throws back, “You did say you were married, but are you happy? He’s not here with you right now, so how about you take my number and I’ll make sure you’re well satisfied and happy.”
“How about you give me your number and I’ll think about a few ways you can make me happy,” I say, catching them off guard.
The asshole whips his head in my direction, pinning me with a hateful look. “This douche. Look, why don’t you keep it moving. I would never give you my number because I’m not into men!”
I let out a devious laugh because that crazy part of my brain has taken over. “Believe me, I’m not into men either, but I would get great pleasure out of making you scream for your life as I carved my initials in your chest.”
“Are you threatening me,” he asks.
I chuckle. “Did you take that as a threat, I thought I was making myself perfectly fucking clear.”
“Yeah, so you better leave us alone before my brother makes you disappear,” Devyn’s little sassy self says.
The asshole chuckles, then says, “Little girl, nobody is worried about your brother. My father is the District Attorney. I wish this piece of shit would lay a hand on me!”
Giving him what he wished for, I grabbed his arm, twisting it behind his back, and slammed his head onto the table. His friend tries to come to his defense, but I pull my pistol on him. The voices of the other patrons grow into a hush as I lean down and tell him, “Please tell DA Hollis, Alistair Kourakos sends his best regards and let him know the only reason you are still breathing is because he has always been a loyal ally to my family. As for you, if we cross paths again, I will not hesitate to put a bullet through your skull. You have disrespected me twice and there will never be a third time. Consider yourself lucky.” I raise up, pushing him away from the booth. His friend catches him before he falls to the floor. It’s a shame some people have to learn the hard way.
As his friend drags him away, I retake my seat next to Hailey.
“I tried to warn him,” Devyn says, shaking her head, cutting into her slice of pizza.
“Yes you did, little sister,” I respond, scooping up another piece of pizza, as Hailey stares at me shaking her head.
“What,” I ask.
“And you told Zar you were going to be a good boy while we were out. I hope this will not be how all of our family outings go.”
“No, Η καρδι? μου (my heart). You have nothing to worry about. That was an asshole who thought just because his father is the DA, it would stop me from putting hands on his ass. Lucky for us, his father has been on our side for many years now.”
Hailey snickers as she rolls her eyes, and continues to enjoy her meal. One thing I will not accept is disrespect. That asshole disrespected me and my family. I wasn’t having that shit. I hate I had to do that in front of Hailey and Devyn, but they needed to see I was willing to put down anyone who showed disdain towards our family.
