Nina pats his chest. “Trent, maybe this wasn’t a good time. Why don’t you go home and let me handle this? I’m so sorry for having to cancel our plans.”

Trent sucks his teeth, jerking his head back. “Are you seriously sending me away for this crazy Italian knock off?”

“I’m Greek, motherfucker,” I educate.

Trent steps toward me, but Nina grabs his arm. “Trent, please. I promise I will call you shortly. Just let me handle this, okay?”

He eyes me as he takes hold of Nina’s chin, then kisses her. Trent didn’t know, he just guaranteed his family would be burying him soon.

“Make sure you call me once you get rid of the stray running around the neighborhood,” he tells her before he kisses her again, then gets back into his car, and drives off. I keep my gun trained on him the whole time.

“What the fuck, Balthazar? First you show up at my club and now my home,” Nina fumes.

I ignore her rant as I tuck my gun into the holster. Once it’s safely in place I demanded, “You’ve got a lot of explaining to do. Go open the door.”

“No, the hell I don’t! In one night, you have disrupted my life, with your presence. I’ll be damned if I let you inside of my home!”

When she gets a good look at crazed look in my eyes, Nina quickly treads over to the door, inserting the key, then opening it. She halfway steps inside to enter the code into her home security system, disarming it.

She opens her mouth, getting ready to speak, but I walk right passed her, entering her house. Just the thought of a Ganino being so close in contact with her, made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Nina closes the door, then drops her purse on the stand next to it. “I can’t believe you just did that,” she mutters, resting her back against the door.

“I can! You leave me, feigning a headache, then make plans with someone else. Do you even know who he is,” I snarl?

Nina pushes off the door, pointing her finger at me, “Why does it matter to you? You are not my man! You’re just someone from my past that I had a one-night stand with. Nothing more, nothing less! And as far as Trent, I know him very well.” To add emphasis, Nina runs her hands over her body.

Before I know it, I have her pressed up against the door with my hand clutching the tip of her chin. Nina’s eyes grow wide as she realizes she has no escape.

“You listen to me and listen to me good. If that motherfucker puts his hands on you again, I will kill him. If I find out any other man touches you after tonight, I will kill him, too. Trust me on this because I will definitely not be repeating it. Yourfriendis the grandson of Ganino family...the Italian Mafia.”

Nina rapidly blinks her eyes before asking, “How do you know? You will say anything to keep me from seeing him. And you don’t have the right to tell me who I can or cannot have touch me. This my body, my pussy. Not yours!”

I let out an evil laugh. “Oh Nina, don’t test me. You really don’t want to find out what I’m capable of. Now, go brush your teeth and gargle. Rinse that motherfucker’s taste from your mouth. When you come back, there are somethings we need to talk about.”

Letting go of her chin, I give her room to move to the side. Nina glares at me like she wants to scratch my eyes out as she walks away. My eyes follow her as she turns the corner. I take off my suit jacket while going into the living room, then sitting it on the arm of the couch. Next, I go over to her bar and pour up two glasses of Patron. With the conversation we are about to have, Nina was going to need a drink and so would I.

Chapter 5

Nina

Shutting off the faucet, I stare at my reflection in the mirror. The cool minty taste from the mouthwash, tingling my tongue. How could my night go from sugar to shit? My life is moving along the way I had planned and here comes Zar like a fucking wrecking ball, trying to tilt my world off its axis. Well, I got news for him. I’m not the same girl who was crushing over my boss. I find it funny he would ask me if I knew who Trent was, when I clearly don’t know who he is. I mean, who shows up at someone’s house, brandishing a gun, making threats, then orders you around? That shit doesn’t fly with me. I’m about to go back out there, tell Zar where he can go with his arrogant attitude, then to get the fuck out of my house. He better be glad I’m not shooting his ass for ruining my night.

Storming out of the bathroom, I stalk towards the living room with purpose. Entering it, I find Zar sitting on the couch with a drink in his hand and another half-filled glass on the table. He swivels his head towards me and I get straight to the point before he has an opportunity to speak.

“Let me tell you something, Balthazar Kourakos. I don’t appreciate you coming to my house. If I didn’t invite you, then that means you are not welcome. The shit you did with Trent was uncalled for! You don’t have any say over my personal or business life. And for you information, I know Trent more than I know you. Hell, you don’t even know me if we’re being honest and I’d like to keep it that way. The person you thought you once knew, no longer exists. So, I’m asking you nicely to please get the fuck out of my house and my life.”

Zar smirks as he tilts his head to the side. “Are you done?”

“I’ve said everything I needed to say,” I reply.

He takes a sip from his glass, then points to empty space on the couch next to him. “Good, now sit down.”

“Did you not hear what I just said? You need to go,” I insist, balling my hands into fists.

“I’m not going to repeat myself,” Zar gruffly says, narrowing his eyes at me.

Why is he being so damn difficult? I don’t have time for this shit. I turn to leave, at this point, Zar can see his own damn way out.
