“Balthazar put me down,” she fusses, giggling.

I kiss her cheek as I sit her on her feet. Mother touches my cheek as I let her go. “This is Nina Palmer. Nina this is my Father, Yiannis, my Grandfather, Sebastian, and my mother, Althaia. Everyone, this is my Nina.”

Father and Grandfather look at each, then smile. “It’s nice to meet you, Nina,” Father says giving her a welcoming hug, then kisses her cheek.

Grandfather does the same, then whispers something in her ear. Nina giggles, nodding her head up and down before he releases her.

“You are so pretty, I can see why my son has claimed you,” Mother gushes as she hugs Nina, then kisses her cheek as well. “I have a feeling we’re going to be really good friends.”

“I would like that,” Nina states, smiling.

Mother smiles back at her, then says, “Good, now if you will excuse me, I need to have a talk with my younger wayward son.” Mother holds up the spoon. “GeeGee hold him!”

Everyone falls into a fit of laughter as GeeGee grabs Alistair. He’s begging for her to let him go, but she tell him, “You knew this was coming when Althaia found out. You were man enough to have those papers drawn up stating you and Hailey are married, so be man enough to take your momma’s whipping!”

Hailey looks like she is getting great pleasure in watching him squirm. Momma raises the spoon getting ready to whack him good when Devyn jumps in front of Alistair.

“Please don’t whip him. Alistair was only trying to help me and my sister.”

Mother lowers the spoon, staring down at the little girl. She smiles at Devyn, then says, “You must be Devyn”

Devyn nods. “Yes, ma’am.”

“And you think I should spare him,” Mother asks.

Devyn nods again. “Yes, ma’am.”

Mother taps the spoon in the palm of her hand, contemplating. “Fine, I spare him this once, but only because you stood up for him, okay?”

“Okay,” Devyn replies, grinning.

“You can let him go, GeeGee,” Mother tells her. As GeeGee does, Mother points the spoon at Alistair. “I’m not done with you.”

Alistair’s face flushes as he pulls her into a hug. “Hello, Mother”

“Hello, son,” Mother giggles as he kisses her cheek. “Now, introduce me to your new wife.” Hailey groans but Alistair beams with excitement.

“Mother, this is my wife, Hailey. Hailey this is my Mother, Althaia, your mother-in-law,” Alistair proudly announces.

Hailey gives him a deadly look before smiling at Mother, then saying, “It’s nice to meet you, Mrs. Kourakos. Thank you for having me and Devyn but your son and I won’t be married for long.”

Mother laughs as she hugs her, then kiss her cheek. “Good luck with that, honey. Once a Kourakos marries a woman, there’s no turning back, even if it was done under crazy circumstances.”

“Well, that won’t happen with us. We’re getting a divorce when we get back,” Hailey explains.

“Of course, you are honey,” Mother snickers, patting Hailey’s cheek, then takes her hand, leading her, Devyn, and GeeGee to the house.

Chapter 16

Balthazar

Even with the threat of Trent looming over me and the need to go back to Dallas to find him, I couldn’t say no to Mother when she asked us to stay the night. This also gave Xander the opportunity to visit with his family that lived in the neighborhood as well.

I held Nina’s hand as Mother gave the ladies a tour of the house. When she took them upstairs to see their rooms, I pulled Nina into my old room, closing the door behind me.

“This is a nice room,” she admired, going over to the dresser, picking up my Senior picture.

“Thank you”
