I go out front and see that Beast is no longer parked out there. They must be in the garage in the back. I wave at the guards as I walk around the house. Seeing the garage door up, I head straight to it. Zar and the others are inside unloading weapons from the vehicle.

“Hey,” I greet.

“Hey, baby,” Zar greets back with a smile.

“How’s Hailey and Devyn,” Alistair asks, coming from the front of the SUV.

I let out a deep breath. “They’re fine. Did Hailey tell you the reason behind how they ended up with Trent?” Alistair shakes his head from side to side.

I begin to tell them what Hailey told me. Their faces went from sad to angry in a matter of minutes. Alistair looked like he wanted shoot some shit up. Did he have some interest in Hailey?

I finish with, “That’s how they ended up with Trent. They were on the run from her step-father.”

“Well, they’re not running anymore,” Alistair growls, causing me to jerk my head back at his words.

“Alistair, Hailey has a plan and knows where they’re going. Her main objective is to keep Devyn safe,” I tell him.

“I said they’re not running anymore! I will keep them safe! Xander, I want you to run a background check on them. I want to know everything about that fucking step-father,” he barks before leaving out of the garage, heading towards the back door.

I peer at Zar. “What the hell was that all about?”

“I think little brother has been hit by cupid’s arrow. Lord, help Hailey because he is not going to let them go without a fight,” Zar replies, with a smirk. Xander and the others laugh, agreeing with him.

I stayed with them until they finished putting the weapons away. As we entered the house, Hailey and Devyn were done eating and talking with GeeGee and Janae. Mike had arrived and was sitting next to Janae. Alistair stood behind Hailey and Devyn like their personal bodyguard.

“Brother, why don’t you have a seat,” Balthazar offers.

Alistair shakes his head. “I’m fine right where I am.”

Zar chuckles as he takes his seat at the head of the table and I sit next to him. He knocks on the table, quieting everyone.

“GeeGee will you take Devyn into the den?”

GeeGee stands. “Come on baby, you can show me how to work this crazy remote Balthazar got. I have to watch my talk shows on the small television in my room because the thing is so complicated.” Devyn giggles as she follows behind her.

Once they’re out of ear shot, Zar says, “Although we didn’t get Trent tonight, we did get some valuable pictures that will come in handy in the future for our benefit. I’m happy we were able to save the women and girls from what could’ve been a life of misery for them. Mike, have they all been returned to their families?”

Mike sits back in his chair, then hangs his arm on the back of Janae’s chair. “Yes, they were. That asshole had people snatching those women and girls from everywhere. Schools, grocery stores, you name it.” He makes a face of disgust.

“He’s still out there, what do you plan to do next,” Xander questions.

Zar side eyes me, then replies, “I think it’s best we send Nina, Janae, GeeGee, Hailey, and Devyn to Chicago with the folks.”

“What,” Janae, Hailey, and I gasp at the same time.

“I’m not going anywhere,” I argue, wrinkling my face up.

Hailey holds up her hand. “Look, I thank you for letting Devyn and I stay here tonight but whatever you have going on with this Trent guy does not involve us. We’ll be leaving as soon as she’s rested up. I got her out of one bad situation that landed us in another. While I thank you for getting us out of that one, I won’t have her mixed up in another.”

“You’re going to Chicago,” Alistair says behind her.

Hailey whips her body towards him. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me! You and Devyn are going to Chicago! You already have one asshole looking for you and if Trent finds out the two of you got away, he’ll be looking for you, too,” Alistair states, giving her a challenging look. “I’m not going to let anyone of those motherfuckers get next to you, so to keep you safe, it’s best to send you, all of you,” he glares at me and Janae. “to Chicago. No one would dare bring their bullshit there!”

“But why do I have to go,” Janae whines, looking at Mike.

Mike hugs her close to him. “It’s only going to be for a little while. Things are about to get uglier than they already are. I agree with Balthazar and Alistair, all of you need to go.”
