As we get closer, I see the red Mustang parked in front of the house. Xander, Hendrix, and I park our vehicles in front of my four car garage. I get out first, then go around to open Nina’s door as the others exit the SUV’s. Hendrix opens GeeGee’s door, then helps her out.

The door of the Mustang flies open with a pissed off looking Janae getting out.

“Are you serious, Nina?! You couldn’t tell me you were with Balthazar,” she fumes approaching us.

The passenger door of the Mustang swings open, causing Alistair, Xander, and the men to pull their guns.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Janae yells putting her hands up.

“Mike,” I question, staring at the tall heavily tattooed white man with shoulder length dark hair, and muscular build. He has his hand on the butt of the side piece strapped to his belt. “Put your guns down,” I order, looking at my brother and the others.

“Balthazar Kourakos,” Mike laughs, closing the door, then walking over to us and shakes my hand. “What’s with the fire brigade,” He asks, raising his eyebrow as he lets my hand go, then steps beside Janae.

“Wait, you two know each other,” Nina grills, scrunching up her nose.

“Right, Mike you never told me you knew Balthazar,” Janae adds, looking confused.

Mike put his arm around her shoulders, drawing her near him. “Now baby, do I ever talk about any of my clients?”

“Clients,” Nina echoes.

I smirk. “Yes, client. Mike has installed security systems in a few of my residential properties and gas stations.”

“Damn, small world,” Nina murmurs.

Janae sucks her teeth, waving her hand. “Yeah, yeah whatever! I’m still waiting on Nina to tell me what happened with her phone and how she ended up with you. The last thing she told me was, she was going home early because she didn’t want to deal with being in the same space as you and look who’s she’s with...YOU!”

GeeGee steps in front of all of us. “Let’s take this inside. I’m old and I’m tired. I don’t like standing on my feet any longer than I have to.” She walks past us, heading for the front door, but stops when Alistair calls to her.

“GeeGee, are you going to cook something?” Alistair shriveled inside himself from the stern look she gives him.

“Boy, after the shit we just went through. You better take your ass in that kitchen and make you a sandwich or order something!” She continues to fuss as she carries on “I know he done lost his damn mind...”

Janae grabs Nina’s arm. “What does she mean what y’all been through? What happened, Nina?!”

Nina gives her a weak smile.

“Come on everyone let’s talk inside,” I say to them. As they begin to move, I hold Nina back, then stop Alistair, telling him, “Let them in the house, you know the code. I need to talk to Nina really quick.”

“Okay,” Alistair affirms, then walking off.

When it’s just the two of us, I ask Nina, “Are you sure you want to tell Janae what happened? I know she is your best friend but can you really trust her with something like that?”

“I trust Janae with my life. She has been there for me when I had no one. Not my momma...and not you,” Nina honestly replies, with watery eyes.

I hug her tight, as the feeling of sadness washes over me. I should have been there for her, but I’m here now.

“Come on, let’s go join the others.”

Nina nods her head in my chest. Releasing her, I intertwine my hand with her, then kiss the back of her hand before taking her inside.

The others in my game room, having drinks when we find them. I didn’t see GeeGee, so I ask, “Where’s GeeGee?”

Xander holds up his beer, replying, “She said she’s seen enough of us today. She went to her room saying don’t bother her unless the house was on fire.”

Everyone laughs, except for Janae who’s sitting on couch, hawking Nina. I lean over and whisper in Nina’s ear, “Baby, you better tell Janae before she goes ape on you.”

Nina squeezes my hand. I kiss her on the cheek before she raises her hand silencing everyone.
