Chris screamed as I let go of his shirt and commenced to assault him with powerful punches to his body. When he drops to the ground, Alistair and Xander join me at kicking the shit out of him. By the time we were done, Chris’ lifeless body lay there in shambles. His face unrecognizable from the repeated kicks to the head.

Breathing hard, I told Xander, “Call the cleanup crew and have them come get this piece of shit. I need to go to the office and erase the footage from security cameras.”

Xander nodded as he pulled out his cellphone and placed the call.

Next, I turned to Alistair and instructed, “Take Nina’s car home for me. I’m giving you and Xander her address because I don’t want anyone else to know where she lives. I’ll text you. Xander will be behind you soon to pick you up.”

“No problem, Zar,” he said as I gave him Nina’s keys.

I left them and went back inside to my office. After deleting the footage, I made a note to myself to call Nina the next morning to check on her. Nina didn’t know it but after that night when she left the club to go home, I was always three cars behind her, making sure nobody fucked with her again.

Chapter 4

Balthazar

“Balthazar, come dance with me,” Chrystal squeals, grabbing my hand.

I glance at her hand then her face. I never knew how some women just didn’t get the hint. I never dated Chrystal, just fucked her once or twice. I’ve never led any of the women on I’ve dealt with. They knew what was up from jump. They were just a release for me. I know that might sound fucked up but I knew who was going to be the leading lady in my life.

I happen to meet Chrystal at a barbeque my aunt and uncle were having a month ago. She’s the daughter of one of my aunt’s friends. I kind of had a feeling fucking with her was going to be a problem, but I went against my better judgement and hung out with her a couple of times. Now, every time there is a family function, her ass shows up, like now.

“I’m not in a dancing mood,” I tell her, pulling my hand back.

She sighs. “I don’t get it, Balthazar. Didn’t we have a good time together? I really like you and I thought you liked me too or was I wrong?”

I hate having to break hearts but sometimes it is necessary. “Look Chrystal, you’re a nice girl and I did have a good time with you, but as I told you in the beginning, I’m not looking for a relationship. We hung out, we fucked, that’s it.”

Chrystal studies me before she raises her hand to slap me. I catch her wrist in mid swing and bring her close to me.

In a harsh tone I tell her, “Believe me, that is something you don’t want to do. I tried to be nice and this is how you react? I suggest you get your shit and leave my cousins party right now or your family will be putting up Missing flyers with your pictures on them.” I let go of her wrist, giving her a challenging look. Hatred and fear fill her eyes as she snatches her purse from the table, then walks away.

“Another one bites the dust,” Alistair teases, handing me a flute of champagne. I grunt, taking the glass from him, then sip some of the bubbly. “You know you wouldn’t have this problem if you would just go ahead and lock things down with Nina. I don’t understand what you’re waiting for. Shit, when I meet the woman I know is meant for me, nothing or no one will keep me from her.”

I roll my eyes at him before going over to one of the couches to take a seat. We have been over this so many times and while I understood where Alistair was coming from, he couldn’t seem to grasp my reasonings for keeping my feeling for Nina at bay. Nina didn’t know my true lifestyle and it’s not something that you just spring on someone. Back then, if I would have told her, I’m a Greek Mafia Boss who’s into illegal shit and occasionally have to kill a few assholes, she probably would have went running for the hills. But now that my businesses are secure and there were no threats that would put her in harm’s way, Nina will soon be Mrs. Kourakos.

Downing the rest of the champagne, I decided it was time for Nina and me to have a little talk. I sit the flute on the table, then stand. Walking over to Alistair and Xander who were entertaining two of Selena’s friends, I tell them, “I’ll be back.” They wave me off as I leave the VIP section, going in the same direction Nina took earlier.

The music dulls as I stroll down the hallway. Different art deco pictures hang along the walls, giving it a modern feeling. I pass two doors before coming to one with a security panel on the wall next to it. I smile, knowing she was keeping herself safe. Owning a club will attract some unsavory types who will try to rob you if given the chance. I knock on the door and wait.

Moments later, Nina asks, “Who is it?”

“Zar,” I reply.

“Shit,” I hear her say through the door.

“Open the door, Nina.”

“What do you want, Balthazar?”

“I want you to open the door. I told you we need to talk.”

Seconds pass before she says, “Now’s not a good time. I have a lot of paperwork I need to look over. Can you leave your number with Janae and I’ll call you when I get a chance?”

Did she really think I was going to fall for that bullshit? Even if I did leave my number with Janae, Nina had no intention on calling me, but I’ll play along with her for shits and giggles. She couldn’t get rid of me that easily.

“Sure, no problem. Have a good night, Nina.”

“You too,” she throws back. I chuckle, shaking my head as I retreat back to the party. The fun was just getting started.
