“Nina come on now, you can’t be mad at me about that,” he snickers on the line.

“Are you fucking kidding me?! You sent men to break into my home, then shoot up my bed! Thank God I wasn’t in it!”

“That wasn’t for you Nina, baby. That was for your friend. Where is he by the way, I’m sure he’s somewhere close to you,” Trent searches, but I’m not telling him shit.

“I don’t know where he’s at and if I did, I wouldn’t tell you.”

“That’s a shame, but you know you can put an end to all of this if you do one thing,” Trent nonchalantly says.

“Oh yeah, and what’s that,” I question, knowing it was going to be some bullshit.

A couple of seconds pass before Trent whispers, “All you have to do is come back to me and I will leave the Greek alone.”

I pull the phone away from my ear and stare at it. Did he think I was a fool? If I went back to him, he still would continue to go after Balthazar. My momma might be an addict, but she didn’t raise no fool.

“That’s not going to happen,” I declare.

“Too bad, you just picked the losing team. The next time my men won’t miss,” Trent threatens before the line goes dead.

Chapter 8

Balthazar

After leaving Nina in our room, I went into one of the guest rooms to take a shower and handle my hygiene. When I came out, GeeGee had left a change of clothes for me on the bed. I guess she knew I wasn’t in the mood to put on a suit, because she set out a pair of jeans, black polo shirt, and a pair of black Timberland’s. I loved wearing my suits, but I do like to dress casual sometimes.

Once dressed, I brushed my hair to the back, then left the room, hoping I could get a chance to speak with GeeGee before Nina joined us. Rounding the corner to the kitchen, I knew that wasn’t going to happen when I heard Alistair and Xander’s voices.

“Just one piece,” Alistair begs, trying to pick up a piece of bacon when GeeGee hits his hand with a spatula.

“Boy, didn’t I tell you no and don’t try to give me those sad puppy dog eyes either. It didn’t work when you used to hang onto my leg crying for another cookie when you were a little boy and it sure as hell not going to work now,” GeeGee teases him then points the spatula at Xander. “And that goes for you, too. The both of you can wait for Balthazar and Nina. If you that damn hungry, why didn’t you pick something up before you got here?”

Alistair smiles at her as he drapes his arm over her shoulders. “Why would we do that GeeGee when we knew you were going to be here. We’d rather have your food any day. Zar’s greedy ass likes to keep your food to himself.”

GeeGee swats his leg with the spatula.

“Sorry, GeeGee,” Alistair apologizes sounding like a little boy as he smiles at her.

“That’s what you get,” I say coming in.

“Zar’s here! Can we please eat something now,” Xander pleads? He and Alistair poke their bottom lips out, giving her sad eyes and praying hands. GeeGee laughs at their pitiful display.

“Dammit, go ahead! Tell them other boys to come in and get something to eat too!”

I laugh as they scurry to the door to get Hendrix and Frankie. I couldn’t blame them though, GeeGee is a damn good cook. I couldn’t tell you how many times my hands were popped, trying to sneak a piece of food past her. I swear the woman has eyes in the back of her head. She would eventually let me get what I wanted but she would also let me know I couldn’t get anything past her either.

“You’re just a big old softy, GeeGee,” I croon, walking over to her, then kissing her cheek.

She hums. “For you boys, I am but don’t get it twisted, I’ll still whoop your asses if I need to!”

I chuckle. “Don’t I know it!”

“Where’s Nina,” she asks, going over to the counter, picking up a platter of croissants, then bringing them to the table.

“I left her to freshen up. She should be in shortly. Speaking of Nina, GeeGee you know she’s just finding out about the Family. I don’t want to hide anything from her, I’ve done that for far too long. You’ve been around us, our family, our lifestyle; with what’s going on, how can I tell she will truly be able to handle everything that being with me entails?”

GeeGee faces me with a slight smile. “That girl in there is a lot stronger than you think. She might be beautiful on the outside but lurking inside is a woman who has been holding in a lot of pain and anger. It is up to you to bring it out of her and baby, when she does, you’ll know in your heart you choose the right woman to be by your side. Trust me on that! You know I’m good at reading people. Remember that little heifer you were dating before you moved down here?” She taps my arm.

I groan at her bring up Tanya Marks. She was the true definition of ‘Gold Digger’. GeeGee tried to warm me about her, but I was so smitten, I didn’t realize she was stealing from me and sleeping with another guy at the same time. Tanya was my first and only heartbreak. I vowed then the next woman I got serious with would be the one I would grow old and gray with.
