It was back again, the feeling of dreaming but still being awake. The feeling of your head trapped in a dream while your body was fully aware.

This isn’t happening. I must be having one of those vivid dreams again.

Fennec’s face was blurry, and I tried my best to focus on him and stay awake.

I heard his name fall from my lips again, but he didn’t react, continuing to touch my body with his strong hands.

I wondered if he’s ever touched another girl like this.

Surely, he must’ve had his fun with the girls from high school, right?

All those girls who adored him, but made me feel worthless.

“Close your eyes, sweet girl.” His voice sounded far away, although he was still sitting on top of me with his hands covering my breasts, both underneath my shirt now.

“I want you to remember what we did when we were younger, Vespyr. Close your eyes and I’ll show you.”

There was no need for me to fight him, because my eyes automatically closed, letting the darkness surround me completely.

His warm breath tickled my skin, and I turned my head to let him press a gentle kiss to my cheek.

“I need you to remember,” he mumbled, then pressed another kiss to my skin, this time closer to the corner of my mouth.

There was so much noise in my head, but the loudest one was a voice telling me not to freak out.

Why would I?

Fennec has been next to me all my life.

I knew him inside and out, and I trusted him no matter what.

“The knife,” I managed to whisper as I felt it press against my hip.

I was scared it was going to poke me, but luckily, Fennec reached back to grab it.

The cold blade of the knife was now pressed against my stomach, and when I opened my eyes again, he was looking down at it with dark eyes I couldn’t quite read, but they were filled with intense emotions.

He moved the knife, the sharpness of the blade making me nervous as he kept moving it along my skin.

“You’re so damn fragile, Ves. A little more pressure and I could easily cut you.”

“You don’t wanna do that,” I whispered.

“No, I would never hurt you, sweet girl. And you should know that.”

His eyes moved back to mine, and I could finally see what was going on in his head by looking straight back at him.

“Put the knife away,” I begged, placing my hand on his wrist and pushing against him to make him lift the knife.

“I would never hurt you, Vespyr. I’m just playing around,” he assured me.

I watched as he lifted the knife again, this time holding it close to my temple.

My breath hitched, and as my heart began to pound, I started to feel unwell. “We should go to sleep, Fen. We have to help Papa with the trees tomorrow.”

“Don’t you remember?” he asked, the blade now slowly running along the side of my face.

“All the things we used to do when we were little.”
