I woke up early in his arms again, like every other morning since we came back to Fairbanks, but this morning, I didn’t feel like leaving his room.

After what we had done last night, we took a quick shower before he took me to bed and fucked me to make both of us come.

We were exhausted after all those nights we stayed awake with each other, but we would soon leave and get our sleeping schedule under control again once we were back in the forest.

As often as we had sex in the past few days, I should’ve gone to the pharmacy more than that one time, but neither of us seemed to care about it anymore.

Getting pregnant wasn’t my plan, but for some reason, nothing inside of me was urging me to go back to the pharmacy to get another morning-after pill.

Fennec didn’t make me either, and I wasn’t even sure you could go in so many times to get it.

I opened my eyes to look up at Fennec still sleeping, but when I placed my hand on his cheek, he moved and frowned.

“What?” he groaned.

I smiled at him, liking how sweet but at the same time grumpy he was early in the morning. “Nothing. I was just thinking,” I whispered, brushing my thumb along his cheek and then pushing my hand into his hair.

“About what?”

“Me getting pregnant.”

His frown deepened, and his hand moved from my hip to my stomach. “Feeling sick?”

His voice was low and raspy from sleep, and I loved listening to him talk first thing in the morning.

“No. I was thinking about the possibility of it happening. We’ve never used protection, and I didn’t go back to get the morning-after pill. Maybe I should go and ask Mama about getting the pill.”

“No,” he said, his voice gruff.

“But we should use some kind of protection. Do you have condoms?”

“Shit, Vespyr. Is this really what you wanna talk about this early?”

He turned onto his back and placed an arm over his eyes.

“We should talk about it. Unless you wanna explain to Mama and Papa how I got pregnant when you were the only guy I’ve ever had sex with. Not sure what they’d find worse.”

He sighed. “You can’t get pregnant,” he hissed, pushing the covers away and sitting up, then leaning against the headboard.

“Of course I can get pregnant, Fennec.”

“No, you can’t. Not unless it’s someone else shooting their load inside of you.”

“Just because we’re sib—”

“That’s not it, Ves. I’m infertile. I can’t impregnate you.”

I stared at him for a moment as his words finally sunk in. “How do you know?”

“I got tested. It’s not like I’m just saying it to make you feel better. Mama took me to the doc two years ago when I was having pain while peeing, and my testicles were swollen.”

I didn’t remember him going to the doctor because of those things, but then, I was probably too busy making sure I would pass another year of high school.

Those times were rough.

“I had an infection, so the doc tested my urine and semen. I can’t conceive, so you’ll be fine.”

“Then…why did you make me go get the morning-after pill?” I asked.
