Finally, he moved out of the way and let me walk past him.
Relieved that he left the store, I continued to shop for everything Ezra asked for, and I couldn’t resist grabbing a few snacks for our nights when we watched real crime shows.
Despite being held back by Jonah, I got home after only an hour, and once I got all the groceries into the fridge and cupboards, I grabbed my phone and sat down on the couch to see whose messages I missed.
Pixie had called, so I tapped the screen to call her back.
After a few rings she picked up, and I smiled at her happy voice.
Although she wasn’t keen on going to Florida for college, I knew she liked it over there.
“Hi!” she greeted, not letting me answer as she continued to talk. “How’s it going over there with your hot teacher boyfriend?” she asked.
I laughed. “It’s going great! I never thought life would be this perfect. How’s college?”
“Oh, you know. Too many parties and too much alcohol. I had to tell my roommate to just drag me out of the house when I couldn’t stand on my own two feet anymore. I think Christmas break is really gonna help me go back to who I was before.”
A worried frown appeared on my forehead. “You’re taking care of yourself, aren’t you?”
“Of course I am, Juno. College wasn’t what I had expected. Now I know and things will change. Don’t worry about me. Are you excited for the dinner party?”
“Uh, yes. More nervous than anything, to be honest. It will be the first time my parents meet his, and I’m not sure how that will go.”
Pixie chuckled. “It’ll be fine. And if not, then I’m there to break the ice or whatever there is that needs to be broken.”
“All right…” I laughed. “Was there anything else you needed to tell me?”
“Uh, not really. Just wanted to let you know that I’m back home in case you’d like to come over. We could go for lunch. You can also bring Ezra.”
“Sounds good. I’ll let you know. Bye, Pixie.”
After we hung up, I turned on the TV to watch something until Ezra came back.
There was nothing else for me to do.
See, if I had a dog, I could go out for a walk and play with it at the park.
But until Ezra wasn’t comfortable with having a pet, I might have to stop asking for one.
I didn’t want to annoy him anymore with it.

“Hey, sweetheart,” I hear Ezra say as he walked into the apartment.
It was already eight, and normally we would’ve eaten by now.
Since he didn’t come home on time, I even tried to attempt cooking something for myself, but then the kitchen might’ve caught fire and that’s not something I wanted to risk.
“Hey, where have you been? I called you about ten times,” I told him.
I wasn’t mad at him, just concerned.
“I’m so sorry, Juno.” He took off his coat and boots, and once he got his scarf and beanie off as well, he walked over to me, bending down and cupping my face before kissing me.
“My phone was on silent, and after we got all the instruments back, I made my way over here but met someone on the way. She wanted to talk,” he explained.
“Who’sshe?”
