I pressed my lips into a thin line and shrugged. “I’ve never been into the idea of marriage,” I simply said.
“Most end in divorce anyway,” Pixie added.
Exactly.
But I didn’t need a piece of paper to know that he loved me endlessly, and he would stick with me either way.
Juno
“It was great, thank you for driving all the way here,” I told Pixie as we hugged.
“Anytime. I’ll let you know when I’m back again.”
I nodded, then pulled back to look at her. “Have a safe flight tomorrow. Text me when you arrive.”
“Okay. And you’re sure you don’t want me to drive you back home?” she asked.
“Oh, no that’s fine. It’s not too far, and you’re closer to the freeway,” I pointed out. “Get home safe.”
“All right. I’ll talk to you later.” Pixie smiled and got into her car, and once she drove off, I started to walk along the sidewalk to get home.
It wasn’t snowing, but the streets were covered with it.
Ezra was waiting on me, and I smiled knowing that he was still up.
That reminded me to text him and let him know that I was headed back home, but when I pulled out my phone, it was dead.
“Shit,” I muttered.
Should’ve charged it before leaving.
I pushed my phone back into my coat pocket, followed by my hands to keep them warm.
I hope he wasn’t too worried, because it did get a little late at the diner.
Pixie and I had fun, talked a lot and listened to the live band playing in the background.
They were great, which made me wonder if Ezra would ever start his own band.
He was a great musician, and I’m sure small gigs like the band at the diner had were easy to find.
With him on my mind, I couldn’t help but smile, and the closer I got to home, the harder my heart pumped in my chest.
I missed him like crazy, although we were going to see each other again in a few minutes.
And with all the happiness and excitement growing inside of me, jealousy and anger were the last things I thought I’d feel tonight.
I recognized Olivia’s car right in front of our apartment building, and I stopped walking as she walked outside the front door.
What the…
I looked up to see the lights in our living room still on, and when I looked back to Olivia, she was driving off.
I frowned, my mind making up every possible scenario of why she was here the night I went out with Pixie, leaving Ezra alone.
He’s cheating.
No!
