“What?!” they all exclaimed at the same time.

After I shushed them, I leaned over the table. “Don’t worry. He didn’t see anything. I had to crawl around the kitchen island so he wouldn’t see me. And I ended up giving Hector head while?—”

Sierra wiggled her brows. “Those Patton boys love getting their dick sucked.”

My lips curled into a small smirk.

“Wait.” Athena paused. “You sucked him off while your dad was in the same room?”

I bit back a smile and nodded.

Sun broke out into a fit of uncontrollable giggles. While she usually was quiet, I knew that she loved every bit of gossip from our friend group. We would have to bring her to Radiant one of these days. She’d get a kick out of it.

“Damn, do they have any more brothers in this family?!” Athena asked.

Sun nudged her. “You have Charlie.”

Athena rolled her eyes. “Oh, please. He would never do something like that! He’s too sweet, and besides, for the millionth time, we’re just friends! Nothing would ever happen between us like that.”

“Mmhmm,” Sierra hummed.

After leaning on my hand, I looked outside and smiled, still lost in my own little world and still thinking about the way that Hector had made me feel all last night. “He makes me feel so special and happy.”

Sneaking around in front of my father—literally feet from him… damn! I still can’t believe I did that!

“Stop,” Sierra said, hand on her chest. “It’s making my chest all warm and fuzzy.”

My cheeks flushed, and I kicked my legs back and forth underneath the table. “He’s my dad’s best friend, but I think I love Hector,” I whispered more so to myself, but it came out louder than I’d expected.

While my friends were excited, a moment later, their expressions dropped.

“Heather?” someone asked behind me.

My eyes widened, and the happiness drained from my body.

Oh my God!

“Heather,” Mom said behind me again.

With nerves shooting through me, I turned my head to see her holding her cup of coffee so tightly that some spilled over the edge and drizzled down the blue cup. Her lips were parted slightly, the look of shock written across her face.

“You’re seeing Hector?”

CHAPTERTHIRTY-SEVEN

HEATHER

After suckingin the thick aroma of hot chocolate and disappointment, I stared at Mom through wide eyes. My mouth was hanging open, and I couldn’t get myself to close it … because Mom had just learned my deepest secret.

“Mom,” I whispered, standing.

Sierra scooted out of the way, the girls quiet. I shuffled in front of the table toward Mom, who mirrored my surprise. She gripped her iced coffee so tightly that the cap had popped off and beige-colored liquid now ran down her hand.

Another silent moment passed, and Mom gulped. “Heather, sweetheart, we need to talk.”

When I grabbed my belongings from my seat, the girls sent me sympathetic looks.

Mom clutched her purse tighter and offered Sierra, Athena, and Sun a tight smile. “Don’t forget about the holiday party this weekend, girls.” She cleared her throat. “You’re all invited, along with your plus-one.”
