During dinner,I used the bathroom in Hector’s high-rise because I really had to pee, and on my way back to the dining room, I might’ve peered into Hector’s office because I was bored and desperatenotto talk to him about what Eric had said to me yesterday. There was no way that I’d ever stoop that low to get him a job.

Once I made sure that he didn’t notice me slip into the room, I gently shut the door behind me, not enough for it to click closed, but enough so he couldn’t just walk in and see me all over his work.

I walked around the office and stared up at the large bookcase fixed on the opposite wall. Books and books and more books and no pictures of family. No sentimental items that he had kept from when he was a child. And definitely no evidence that he had any interest in Evelyn.

To follow Master’s directions.

To be loyal to Master.
