As Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe descended the stairs, I crossed my arms over my chest. “You both should feel ashamed of yourselves.”

I didn’t know what was going on with Oliver in this; I could make my best guess, but I hadn’t seen anything.

But Mr. Wolfe … I turned toward him. “You’re about the biggest piece of trash that I have ever met.”

“Don’t talk about my husband that way,” Mrs. Wolfe said, handing Oliver the Band-Aid and turning toward me. Her lovely, caring expression that she always had with me was suddenly gone, and she crossed her arms.

“Your husband is cheating on you,” I growled. “With two of my classmates.” I stepped closer to her, refusing to back down to a grown-ass woman. “And Alec walked in on them last night, if you even fucking care.” Not giving anyone any time to speak, I turned toward Oliver. “And you’re sleeping with his mom.”

Oliver scrunched his nose. “I’m not sleeping with Mrs. Wolfe.”

“Then, why the fuck are you here, on your night off from hockey?!” I shouted, throwing my hands up in the air. “I highly doubt that Alec knows you’re hanging out with his mother behind his back! You’re the biggest—argh, forget it!”

Deciding that I wouldn’t surrender this time, I snapped both hands around his wrist and pulled him out to the garage and to his car. I didn’t give a fuck if he was sleeping with her or not. It didn’t matter to me.

But what did matter was that he had been doing this behind Alec’s back.

Alec already felt betrayed because of his father and mother. If he found out that his best friend could possibly be banging one—or both—of them too, he would be devastated.

Although Alec and I had kinda done the same thing, this was far different.

This was Alec’s parents. His parents!

“Get in your fucking car, Oliver,” I growled. “We’re going home.”

“Maybe you’re going home, sis.” Oliver crossed his arms. “But I’m not going anywhere with you.”

CHAPTER50

ALEC

“Alec Wolfe?” a recruiter dressed in a suit said, extending his hand to me after practice. Usually, college recruiters came alone or with another person, but there were a handful of them behind this guy. “Salvador Larsen. We work for the Glaciers.”

My eyes widened. The Glaciers?! They were a team in the NHL.

I shook his hand. “It’s nice to meet you, sir.”

“Very impressive out on the ice tonight,” he complimented. “We’ve attended a couple of your games, and we wanted to extend an invitation for you and your family to visit our stadium and watch training for a national league.”

“I would love that,” I said, hiking my training gear up my shoulder.

He placed a hand on another man’s shoulder behind him. “I’ll have Jeremy send you the information via email. You’re welcome to bring both of your parents and siblings, if you have any, for a couple of days in the spring.”

Lips curled into a smile, I nodded. “That’d be great, but can I bring someone else instead?” I paused because I didn’t want to overstep, but I didn’t want my parents coming with me. “Someone who has supported me even more?”

“Sure.” He nodded and extended his hand once more for me to shake. “It was nice meeting you, Alec. And we look forward to seeing you at the training, and hopefully, we’ll see you at the draft in June too.”

I bit back a grin and shook his hand to say good-bye. Once they headed out the back door, I glanced over at Coach, who was leaning against his office door and smiling at me.

“Congratulations, son.”

“Thank you,” I said, rushing over and enveloping him in a hug. “Thank you. Thank you.”

He chuckled and slung his arm around my shoulder. “You’ve put in all the hard work.”

“But I couldn’t have done it without you,” I said.

“Don’t discredit your achievements, Alec. Why don’t you go celebrate with Maddie?”
