“Shit, alright. Be smart. Don’t let the rabbits destroy my club.” He steps away but stops, pointing his finger at me. “Do not let anyone touch you. I don’t want my business burned to ash.” I hold my palms out.
“Don’t worry.” He rolls his eyes and continues through the crowd.
“Fuck, that was a fine vampire,” Roxanne hums, staring at Ryker’s retreating form.
“Baby,” Mav says, kissing the corner of my mouth. He pulls me against him, and I prop my chin against his chest.
“Mav,” I sigh. “I missed you.” I did. I loved spending time with King, but he was missed.
“I missed you, too, baby,” he says.
“You haven’t seen anything yet,” Sally says to Roxanne. “The eye candy around here is delicious.”
“Maybe I should move here,” Roxanne says.
“We would love it, Mom,” Mav says.
“Yes,” Sally hisses. “This town needs another rabbit.”
“That would be fantastic,” I say, earning a brilliant smile from their mom.
“Thanks, Saphy.” My face heats. I shouldn’t love the nickname she gave me so much. “We should get a drink,” she says to Sally and then turns to me. “Can we take this table?”
“Of course.” I step back and see King leave the bar. “Tell me what you want.” They sit, and I admire King as he saunters over. I don’t miss the looks he gets as he passes a group of women, and I crinkle my nose. Ryker should be more worried about me causing damage.
King kisses my cheek and slides his arm across my waist as he moves around me to sit by Maverick. “Mom. Sally.”
“King, are you drinking?” Sally asks.
“Not tonight,” he says.
“Mav?” I ask.
“No thanks, baby.” I nod, and the ladies launch into their order. They change it no less than five times.
I give my mates a soft look before leaving them. As I walk toward the bar, I look around, making sure my other tables drinks are not empty.
Oh, no.
My eyes lock on a man I thought I would never see again. He’s human, and I thought he was good-looking, but now he pales in comparison to my mates. We went out three times, and at the end of the third, he thought he should get rewarded with sex because he bought my meal. I disagreed. Instead of sex, he got a knee to the balls and an uppercut. He isn’t a fan of mine.
I look away and hurry to the bar. Maybe he didn’t recognize me. Hopefully, he forgot about the woman who swore he would never have children.
I peek over my shoulder. Nope, he remembers. There is a fire in his eyes.
Ryker is going to fire me for sure.
Chapter Eighteen
Maverick
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Ryker snarls to everyone in the room. “How am I the voice of fucking reason?” He rakes his fingers through his hair.
“It’s not our fault,” Saphira says.
“Not your fault,” Ryker says, clearly exasperated.
“He touched her,” Sally says. “He really shouldn’t have.”
