The blood that had been pumping hot through both of our veins was cooled, and clarity had settled back in.

A reminder of what was at stake here. That I couldn’t afford to mess this up. No matter how much I wanted her.

Luna and Willow’s voices drifted into her bedroom, but I tried not to eavesdrop as she talked with her sister. It was after one in the morning, which begged the question—where was my brother?

Why wasn’t she with him?Even if this place was hidden by witch magic, I didn’t trust that it wassafe. I could hardly bear to think about Luna living here alone.

Wandering around her room, I used the time alone to study the things she’d prized enough to keep beside her. Much like the dress she’d been wearing the first night we’d met, she clearly loved the color purple.

Her bedspread was a soft purple adorned with little whiteflowers, and her walls had been decorated with moons, flowers, and pastel tapestries. Sprigs of dried lilacs and lavender hung from the wall, and a collection of crystals sat on her bedside table, as well as a collection of sweet-smelling candles on her desk. There was a bookcase full of titles I was sure we didn’t have in the demon realm, but they looked well-read and loved. It was nothing like I would have ever imagined for the room of a witch, and yet, perfectlyher.

I picked up a little pink crescent moon-shaped crystal off her desk and ran my fingers over its smooth edges.

“What are you doing?” Luna asked softly, her head leaning against her door frame as she watched me take in her space.

“Observing,” I said, flashing her a smile.Learning you.I set the crystal back down.

“She’s gone. Sorry about that. I think she was just freaking out.” My little queen rubbed at her shoulders. “All good now, though.”

I shook my head. “Don’t apologize. You two have a special bond, do you not?”

“Twin flames and all that.” She nodded, waving her hand. The door shut with a click—leaving just the two of us inside.

“So you believe in it?” Maybe this would be easier than I thought. To convince her to come back with me.

Luna moved, coming to stand beside me in her room. “I believe fate guides us to where we’re supposed to be. But the rest is up to us. A soulmate may be predestined to fall in love with you, but without trust and care, there’s no chance of a lasting relationship.”

“And do you trust me?” The words slipped out before I could think better of it.

Her eyes fluttered shut for just a moment. “Maybe I shouldn’t, but I do. Is that crazy?”

“No,” I murmured the word because she was close enoughto hear me even if I’d whispered it. The connection I felt between us was unreal.

She kept going. “You could have taken advantage of me that first night. And I would have let you. But you didn’t. Because you’re a gentleman.”

A gentleman who was ready to fuck you on your kitchen counter thirty minutes ago.And I would have if we hadn’t gotten interrupted. “Am I?” I flashed her my teeth. I was many things, but a gentleman wasn’t one of them.

“Uh-huh.” Luna’s hand rested over my heart. “I feel safe with you.” She let her fingers creep up my chest, her voice growing deeper as she whispered, “Now… where were we earlier? Before we got so rudely interrupted?”

Putting my hand over hers, I held it in mine. Letting the rightness flow through me for just a moment. “I should go.”

“Don’t.” Her bright green eyes captivated me, the color almost unnatural. “Stay. Please.”

“I don’t know if that’s such a good idea.” Luna groaned, but I kept going. “Earlier, we…”

“Don’t care,” she said, her fingers digging into my hair to bring our lips level. “I’ve never wanted anyone the way that I want you. Please. I just want…”

“Luna.” I leaned down, my mouth dangerously close to her neck. Letting my lips ghost over her ear. “If we do this, I’m not going to be able to let you go.”

“Maybe I don’t want you to.” She fluttered her eyelashes. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been with anyone that made me feel alive. We don’t have to worry about the rest.”

Fuck.

I scraped my teeth over her bare skin, wanting to claim her so badly. Knowing that once I touched her, I wouldn’t be able to stop. Her pulse point called my name, and I wanted to put my lips there, to suck it into my mouth.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”
