“Your sister needs you. I—she’s not due for another two weeks, and her husband is busy with a case, but—”

“Mom.” I frowned, interrupting her. “She can call me herself, you know.”

My mother sighed. “Lavender doesn’t want to bother you. She knows you just got married.”

“Okay?” I raised an eyebrow, even though I knew she couldn’t see me.

“She’s in labor. They’re worried that there will be complications, and—” My mother choked out a sob.

My eyes widened as I listened to her explain what was happening, and when I hung up the phone, I promised I’d be there soon.

“What’s wrong?” He asked me, his face full of worry. Forme.

It broke my heart a little, knowing what I had to say next.
