I considered all the reasons I shouldn’t tell him, but in the end, I knew he deserved an explanation.
The truth.
I sighed. “Topher is an old friend of my father’s. He’s always been a dangerous man, but he never had a reason to turn his anger on us. Dad liked him because they both enjoyed business and a good beer. They were childhood friends as far as I know. When our mother left, Topher told Dad to throw us out, and when he didn’t, headvisedDad to teach us how to be men. Give us the tough-love treatment.”
Quin frowned, and I nodded, agreeing with his silent disapproval.
“He’s never been a good man, and Jackson knew to keep his distance and not mess with Topher. But Jack never does what’s good for him. Or maybe he thinks he’s smarter than everyone else. I’m not sure.”
“Is Jackson safe with Royal?” Quin asked tentatively.
His sweet innocence and caring nature made him the perfect wife, but I couldn’t help but chuckle at his words.
“What?” He pouted at me. “What are you laughing at?”
“My darling wife.” I cupped his face and leaned in for a deep kiss, which he happily returned, much to my relief. “Royal is going to destroy Jack.”
“What? What do you mean?” His pretty hazel eyes widened.
I smirked. “Royal had a falling out with his boyfriend, and I could tell he wanted in Jackson’s ass, and Jack needs some discipline. I have a feeling Jack’s going to get it.”
“Oh my God.” Quin’s mouth popped open, and amusement twitched his lips as the realization hit him. “Ohmy God. Does Jack like men? Does he?—”
“Jack does what he wants, when he wants.” I shrugged. “But he said he’s been with a man or two in the past.”
“Now that I think about it, he might’ve been flirting with Royal a few times, too.” Excitement lit up Quin’s face and he bounced in his seat. “Matt, we could set them up.”
I pressed a kiss to the corner of his mouth. “Baby Girl. Princess. Love of my life. My beautiful, pretty wife, I don’t think they need help in that department. Royal has it handled.”
He sighed dramatically, and I stared at him, unable to believe how lucky I was to have found such a beautiful man to make my own. When all this had begun, I’d wanted to toy with him, but it was so easy to fall for him that I hadn’t had time to understand what was happening before it was there. Love was a fictional idea in my head, and all I’d wanted was a wife to take care of me, but I’d found so much more with Quin.
“Don’t call off the wedding,” I whispered, startling him into looking at me. “I’m sorry. You are the most important thing to me, Lovebug, and I never wanted you in danger. Derek’s house was the safest place for you.”
He pursed his pretty plush lips in thought. “Don’t do it again, Husband. We’re in thistogether, do you understand? I chose to be with you, including your career. I understand I can be in danger, but I’m not a person who hides in fear. You’re mine as much as I’m yours.”
I shook my head in surprise and swooped in to place a kiss on his mouth. “Together. I promise from now on.”
He nodded, clearly satisfied. “So....” He glanced toward the sky again, where the flames were beginning to flicker. The low-hanging clouds took on a sunset glow, even though it was nighttime. “We just wait here?”
I hummed. “For about half an hour, at least. We don’t want to be connected to the fire. We’ll need to get our stories straight so when the cops question us, they’ll align.”
“Well, I was at the police station for a long time this afternoon, and you came to get me. After that, we could’ve headed to Derek’s house for dinner.”
“Smart. I’ll message Derek.” I yanked out my phone from the pocket of my pants and texted him through our encrypted server. All our correspondence was cleared each day. The only way someone would catch us for anything we said to each other was if our IT nerds ratted, and we paid them too much to do such a thing. Plus, most of them hated anything that even vaguely resembled authority. I told Derek the plan and gave him a rundown of our alibi, and he responded immediately, giving me a thumbs-up.
“What do we do in the meantime?” Quin shot me a glance under lowered lashes and swiped his tongue slowly across his upper lip.
I smirked and pushed the button that dropped my seat backward until I was in a reclined position. Patting my crotch, I grinned. “We can keep ourselves occupied, Princess. You can show me how much you’re looking forward to being my wife soon.”
Quin mock gasped, slapping a dramatic hand to his chest. “Husband, are you suggesting car sex?”
I cupped the back of my head and spread my thighs more. “Get on top of me, Baby Girl.”
“What kind of wife do you think I am?” His mouth curled wickedly as he shrugged his hoodie off, throwing it into the backseat. His cap hit the floor next. His hair was messy after being hidden under a hat and he shook it out. He glanced down at his jeans for a second before making a sound like he’d made up his mind. He kicked off his shoes and stripped his socks before shoving the borrowed pants down and off his legs and feet. “Better.”
With only a shirt and frilly lace underwear, he wriggled his way onto my lap and sat astride my thighs. I groaned when his weight pressed down on my hardening cock.
“Baby Girl,” I moaned, my hands shooting out to grasp his slim waist. “Are you trying to make me nut in my pants?”
