Chapter Five
King
TONIGHT IS MY datewith Brynn. I’m honestly excited about something for the first time in a very long time. While I’ve been thinking of her and planning this date, I’ve also been thinking about the girl on the sport bike I saw. It’s confusing as hell because there’s something about both women that are drawing me to them and one of them I haven’t even seen. I know she can handle a bike and outrun someone trying to catch up to her. That’s not a lot to go on at all. I might have been searching through the city’s cameras to catch another glimpse of her but so far I’m missing something. Not every part of the city has cameras and there’s a lot of side streets she can travel down to avoid any and all of the cameras placed around the city. She must know where they are—it’s the only reason I wouldn’t have caught any sign of her up to this point.
After showering and getting dressed in my standard pair of jeans, I add a button-down shirt in black that I leave untucked and my boots. I take good care of my clothes so there’s no scuff marks or anything on my boots. They still look brand-new if I’m being honest. Making sure I have everything I’ll need, I grab my phone and slide it in my pocket before sliding my cut on and leaving my room. I make sure my door’s locked so no one can get inside and head downstairs to the common room that’s full of members and ol’ ladies with the kids who are old enough running around. Shaking my head, I know they’re all here because Jinx let it out that I have a date tonight.
“King, do we need to go over the talk before you leave tonight?” Vault asks, sitting up straighter in his seat as I hit the bottom step. “Don’t get this girl pregnant tonight. Make sure you wrap it up and take your time. No one wants a two pump chump.”
Everyone starts laughing their asses off while I shake my head at them. I have no words for my President at all.
“King, ya know we love ya. Enjoy your date and I want all the details when you get back,” Hope says, walking over and fixing the collar of my shirt before looking at me to make sure I look okay. “This girl is lucky as fuck to go on a date with you. Where are you taking her?”
“I’m not sayin’ a word. I can imagine more than a few of you assholes showin’ up if I let it out where I’m goin’. None of you are gonna ambush us wherever we end up,” I state loud enough for everyone to hear. “Jinx, if I see any of your vehicles followin’ me, I’ll make sure my cousin doesn’t have any more children.”
“You like this girl,” Jinx says, his eyes widening with the shock of his realization. “We’ll leave you alone, King. Have fun and just be yourself. You’ve had dates before. It’s been a very long time, but I have faith that you’ll have a great night tonight. Don’t let anyone else get in your head.”
“Yeah. We’re just messin’ with you, King,” Valor adds, looking around the room with his serious look because he can see that I’m ready to lose my shit. “Anyone shows up where King and his date are tonight and you’ll be on clean-up for the next year. Leave him alone.”
“We got you, King. Proud of you for takin’ this step,” Vault says, completely serious this time as he looks at me. “It’s taken a lot for you to get here and I know you hate askin’ for help or us seein’ you at your lowest. We’re all here for you and just want you to have a good time tonight.”
“Thanks,” I mutter, letting Hope finish messing with me before I hug her close for a minute and then let her go so I can leave.
Walking out of the clubhouse, I head for my truck. I hate driving this damn thing, but I don’t know if Brynn would be comfortable on the back of my bike. So, I’ve decided the truck is the way to go tonight. Plus, it helps put part of my plan for our date in place with the supplies I have loaded up in the backseat.
Brynn’s meeting me at the diner tonight. She didn’t want me to have her home address even though I can just look it up based on her phone number I got. I’m respecting her wishes and know she needs to feel secure as a woman going on her first date with someone she doesn’t know. I like that she’s taking precautions with her safety and I will not do anything to make her feel as if I’m pushing her into something she doesn’t want to do.
Driving through town, I don’t pay attention as my excitement about tonight turns to nerves. This is the first date I’ve been on since high school. Even those were more of something to do on a weekend and because it was expected of me versus anything I truly wanted to do. I would’ve rather been back at home with my dad learning more on the computer. The girls in high school were only out to date the most popular guys in school and didn’t give a fuck if that was me or someone else playing sports. It got old really quick and I learned that I wasn’t interested in dating. The same can’t be said about tonight. I’m looking forward to getting to know Brynn and talking about anything she wants to. I think that’s why I’m so damn nervous because I want this date to lead to another one.
This stopped being about the bet with Jinx the second I laid eyes on Brynn that first day. Yes, I was still telling myself that’s what it was about, but deep down I know it’s more than that. This is a girl I want to spend time with and get to know. Especially when it comes to the books she’s always reading. You can tell a lot by the books someone reads. At least that’s what my mom tells me all the time.
Pulling into the parking lot of the diner, I park my truck right up front of the building and shut the engine off before stepping out and watching as Brynn gets out of a blackHellcat. Holy shit! I love this fucking car as I start inspecting it up close while Brynn watches me.
“I take it you like my car?” she asks, a smile on her face when I finally turn my attention to her.
“I’m sorry. Yes, I love your car,” I answer, looking her up and down. “You look beautiful, Brynn.”
