“My stomach hurts, Kingston. And I feel like I’m bleeding. They told us we didn’t have to worry about losing the baby,” she answers me, tears sliding down her face and landing on the couch as I jump off and pull her into my arms without hesitation.

“I’m gonna take you to the bathroom so you can see what’s goin’ on and clean up if that’s what you need to do. While you’re doin’ that, I’m gonna call Jinx and let him know what’s goin’ on because you’re goin’ to the hospital. I’m calling in Dr. Craven or anyone else,” I tell her, putting her feet on the floor and keeping my hands on her so she doesn’t fall or collapse as she holds her stomach and remains hunched over.

Pulling out my phone, I don’t leave her alone in the bathroom as she slides her panties down her legs and I see the blood covering them. Brynn looks up at me with even more tears falling from her eyes that are filled with fear.

“What’s up, King?” Jinx asks me, sleep lacing his voice as he answers my call.

“Gotta take Brynn to the hospital. She’s bleedin’ and her stomach hurts really bad,” I rush out my words as she sits down on the toilet, her entire body shaking.

“Fuck! Okay. I’m gettin’ Hope up. We’ll have Kat watch the kids so we can go with you. I’m starting the SUV now so it’s warm for her. Make sure you have her wrapped up in a blanket and she wears hoodie or something that’s easy to get off. If it’s a hoodie, make sure it’s one of those zip up ones. Do you want anyone else to know what’s goin’ on?” my best friend asks me, sounds letting me know he’s moving around his room to get ready to help us.

“Not now,” I tell him, hanging up the phone. “What do you need from me, Kitten?”

“I’m gonna need a new pair of panties and some kind of pants. I’d prefer sweatpants if you can find them. I’ll also need a pad to put on until I can get to the hospital. Kingston, is our baby going to be okay?” she asks me, her voice breaking as a large sob takes over her small body.

“Our baby is a fighter and will be okay, Kitten. I’m gonna leave you long enough to get what you need. I’ll be right back. Jinx and Hope will be here soon,” I tell her, leaning down to kiss her lips before rushing out of the bathroom and upstairs to our bedroom.

It doesn’t take me very long to gather up the necessary items. Including a hoodie for her to wear and her favorite blanket that’s warm and will hopefully help her stop shaking uncontrollably. Racing back downstairs, I find Hope in the bathroom with her. Hope’s at my girl’s side as she uses a washcloth to clean herself off from the blood she’s already lost. Brynn’s leaning against the wall to support herself.

“I’ve got what you need, Kitten. Do you want Hope to help you while I leave the two of you alone? Or do you want me to help you?” I ask her, needing to do what she needs me to right now because this is all about her and our baby.

“Don’t leave me, Kingston. Please don’t leave me,” she pleads with me as Hope backs up and I step up to pull her into my arms.

“I’m not goin’ anywhere, Kitten. I’ll never leave your side. I just want to do whatever you need me to so you’re comfortable. Told you I’m all in and that you’re stuck with me, Brynn. I meant it,” I state, helping her put a new pair of panties on so she can put the pad on before sliding them up her legs.

Hope hands me the sweatpants I dropped on the floor when I started helping Brynn dress after I toss the washcloth into the garbage can. Once the pants are covering her legs, I take the hoodie and slide it on her upper body. Lifting Brynn up in my arms, the three of us rush from the bathroom to find Jinx still waiting in the SUV ready to leave the second we’re all inside. I get in the backseat with Brynn still in my arms as she cries in my chest. Hope hands me the blanket I also dropped somewhere along the way and I cover my girl up the best I can with it. As soon as our doors are shut, Jinx races from our house and away from the compound to the hospital. He must have called the gatehouse because the gate is standing open when we got to it and that doesn’t ever happen overnight for any reason.

We’ve been at the hospitalfor hours now. Jinx, Hope, and more members of the club are filling the waiting room as they wait for any kind of update about what’s going on. Right now Brynn is hooked up to an IV and getting fluids for the dehydration caused by her morning sickness. Dr. Craven walked in and performed an exam and then an ultrasound. She doesn’t see anything wrong with the baby at this point. The heartbeat is strong and steady and is now saved on my phone for Brynn to listen to anytime she needs a reminder our baby is okay. Right now we’re waiting on the blood work to come back so Dr. Craven can be sure there isn’t some kind of infection or other problem we’re not seeing at this point.

I’ve called Scathe and my family to let them all know what’s going on and that we’ll call again once we have more information. Scathe and my dad are ready to head here in a split second to be there for us. Brynn doesn’t want them making the trip if it’s not needed because they haven’t been home all that long. That’s about the only thing she’s said after letting the doctors know what happened and how she feels. She still has pain in her stomach but it’s slowly easing up as she lays in the hospital bed.

I’m sitting next to her, holding her hand under the blankets so she can try to get warm. Shivers still rack her body and she keeps saying she feels so cold. I can’t really blame her because it does feel as if the air conditioning is on full blast as I sit next to her. One of the nurses actually brought my girl two of the blankets they put in those warmer things to try and get her warmed up. So far it hasn’t worked. She’s still shivering as tears slide silently down her face. Brynn is holding my hand tight as hell and I know it’s from the fear coursing through her. It’s the same fear roaring through my body right now.

I have no clue how much time passes as Dr. Craven walks back in our room and hesitates at the end of the bed. There’s no way to tell if the news she has to share is good or bad with a blank mask firmly locked in place.

“Brynn, I’m here to tell you, there is nothing wrong with the baby. He or she is perfectly safe and you’re not gonna lose them. It’s been long enough now that I don’t believe this is from the kidnapping and attack you suffered through. Right now, I don’t know what’s causing you to bleed. Your blood work is normal and none of your levels are high or low. I do believe the bleeding is starting to slow down which is a good thing. Until we know what’s going on for sure, I’m going to put you on complete bed rest at this point. I don’t want you getting up for any reason other than to go to the bathroom. You are to be waited on hand and foot with no exceptions. Your next appointment, I will come to you so you don’t have to get out of bed for any reason,” Dr. Craven informs us as more tears start to slide down Brynn’s face and I squeeze her hand tighter trying to comfort her.

“Is there anythin’ else we should be doin’ while she’s on bed rest?” I ask the doctor as she gives me a small smile.

“Keep her hydrated and if she needs the medicine for nausea make sure she takes it. I don’t want to have to admit you to the hospital, Brynn. That is a possibility at this point if things don’t get better. I’m gonna get your discharge papers ready and let you go home. This bag of fluid is almost gone and you should be okay to leave. Do not walk out of here and let Kingston carry you like I know he wants to. If you have a bedroom on the first floor, I suggest you temporarily move into that one,” Dr. Craven answers me as I nod my head in response. “If anything else happens, I want you to call me immediately. If you start bleeding again, come straight back here and call me on your way.”

We watch the doctor leave the hospital room. Brynn closes her eyes and I watch her entire body relax for the first time since she woke me up on the couch. No matter what I did or said, we’ve both been in this tiny room on our own with tension keeping our bodies locked up tight.

“When we get home, I’ll let our families know what’s goin’ on. I’m gonna have Savannah run over to the house and get the first floor bedroom ready for you and put in somethin’ for dinner. You have to eat soon. I’m gonna have the Prospects get some more drinks and anythin’ else you want. We’ll lay in bed and figure out what we can do movin’ forward to keep you occupied until you’re off bed rest,” I tell Brynn, standing up from my seat and pressing my lips to her forehead. “I love you, Kitten.”

“I love you, Kingston. I’m sorry this is happening,” she says, opening her eyes and looking at me.

“This isn’t your fault, Kitten. These things happen sometimes and no one knows why. You need to calm down so it doesn’t continue to happen,” I tell her, stepping back as a nurse enters the room and begins unhooking the IV from Brynn’s arm and placing a gauze pad over the area to prevent her from bleeding.

It doesn’t take long for me to get Savannah to our home to get the bedroom ready as we leave the hospital. If I thought we were exhausted before, it’s nothing compared to what I feel now. I want nothing more than to get home and climb in bed with my girl and hold her close as we sleep. For now, our lives are going to be a little hard, but that’s okay. We’ll figure everything out and get through this together because that’s how we do things.
