Jules pulled me back a step, probably trying to hide me from the view of whoever was in the car. Milo used a forefinger to slightly shift the curtains from the side to get a better look at the street.
“I know what you’re thinking Em, and this doesn’t mean they’re on to us. This is the fraternity house. The sorority house is three houses down. There are any number of reasons why they’d be parked close by.” Regardless of his words, he still ushered us away from the window.
I snagged my boxers from the floor, yanking them up my legs. “Yeah, well, think about this. Why would one of the elite members be out there? If they were so worried about what these fuckups were doing, they would send one of the lower level lackies. Doing their own dirty work has never been their style.”
Elise was starting to stir as the other two dressed. I opted to watch her rather than look at the other two. Milo was being so fucking stupid about this whole thing, he was going to get us killed. If I looked at him right now, there was a good chance I’d punch him.
She sat up, holding the sheet to her chest and rubbing her eyes when Jules stepped in front of me, pressing a hand to my stomach. He’d at least taken the time to put on jeans.
I’m with you, Emmett. I believe something is up. But why would they be so obvious about it? Their MO is to hide in the shadows until they slit your throat,he signed.
Milo came around to form a close circle, keeping his voice low. “That’s why I’m having such a hard time believing. This isn’t their style. But I agree we should be cautious. No reason not to play it safe in case they are somehow suspecting us.”
All of this was making my head hurt. I’d give anything for the opportunity to live my life with my best friends the way we want, preferably without having to lie, cheat, or steal to achieve it. “Listen, I hear you, but I have a shady as fuck feeling. To me, this is too much of a coincidence when we’ve never noticed anything before. This is a warning. Maybe they know we’re trying to get out, maybe they suspect, but something’s telling me this is them saying theyseeus.” I pointed a finger out the window toward where the Maserati sat.
Elise fake coughed, smoothing her tangled hair out of her face. “If I can put in my two cents…” She trailed off as if she were waiting for us to object.
She fucked up Clownface last night, and when I say fucked up, I meant she went above and beyond anything I would have expected of her. And she’denjoyedit. As far as I was concerned, last night was her official induction ceremony.
Milo nor Jules said a word either, all of us waiting patiently to see what she had to say.
“You’re spending a hell of a lot of energy worrying over what they’re doing. You all seem insanely connected. I don’t know how high you’re considered in this secret society shit, but you can’t be that high up, right? You’re all college students. Still, everyone I’ve encountered treats you like royalty, like you guys are so far above everyone else, you don’t even notice them.” She took a deep breath. “Surely you have someone that could tell you if you’re on someone’s radar?”
Milo narrowed his gaze at Elise, then sent Jules and I a penetrating stare.
That sounded so simple. But impossible, wasn’t it? The elite always covered their own backs, and each other, no matter what. Milo’s dad could literally burn down the courthouse in his underwear and a smile, and they’d close ranks, tossing out threats and false news claims like they were Skittles.
“I don’t think we have anyone in our pocket that would be willing to put their necks on the chopping block.” Milo drew out the words like he was working out a half formulated plan. He tapped two fingers against his mouth, then spun around to his desk.
A pained groan came from Elise. “Please tell me you aren’t planning some kind of revolt, and stashing all of your incriminating evidence in your bedroom desk.”
Milo waved a hand, too focused on what he was doing to be offended. “No, of course not. I’m just thinking.” He pulled out a black book from his bottom drawer. We each had one. Milo’s dad was very old fashioned and kept all of his associates in a black address book. When we graduated high school, he gave us each one with only the necessities in it. Him, each of our parents. He’d said we would add people to it as we worked our way up the ranks. For someone who didn’t seem to feel any empathy at all, he’d came across like a proud old man in that moment.
The paper rustled as Milo turned page after page.
“Okay, now please tell me you’re not looking for answers in your little black book of bitches? That looks a hell of a lot like a booty call compilation.”
Her slightly exasperated tone cut some of the sharp edges away from my anxiety. Jules’ eyes even crinkled. Maybe because it also sounded like there could be a slight hint of jealousy there. And wasn’t that an added element of fun to our dynamic?
“As convenient as that would be, pussy has never been so inspiring that I felt the need to keep track and revisit where I’ve been.” Milo looked up with a wicked grin. “That is, until I experienced you.”
Elise flushed, and I couldn’t tell if it was from embarrassment or desire. What I knew of Elise, probably desire. Too bad we didn’t have time to indulge this morning. The next time we took her, I was taking my time.
She climbed out of bed, dropping the sheet as she walked to where her panties and bra were tossed carelessly on the floor. I gulped. It was definitely desire. Her nipples were hardened pebbles and her skin was slightly flushed, giving her a glowing goddess look.
Dear lord, she bent over to pick up her thong with a dainty finger, her ass jiggling just a tiny bit as she slid them on. She gave us her beautiful backside while she fixed her bra, then walked over to the dresser and grabbed a shirt from Milo’s casual wear drawer.
Even that was sexy as hell on her, and it was about three sizes too big, coming to mid-thigh and hanging off the side of one shoulder. For all her curves, she really was quite small.
“I want to help and be a part of the solution, but I need to brush my teeth. Four sets of morning breath doesn’t sound fun for anybody.” She trotted into the bathroom, shutting the door softly behind her. Milo waited for the water to turn on before speaking.
“We don’t have a plant, but it gave me an idea. There are tons of parties and social events every weekend. We could snag an invite to one of the elite events and check the pulse. If something is off, we’ll know for sure.” Milo tapped a name on a particular page. “All I have to do is let Tamara know I’d like to spend some time with Dad.” His PA.
Jules shook his head and signed,And deliver ourselves right into their hands if they do know something. I don’t like it.
I one hundred percent agreed with Jules. Milo had always been the one to take care of us, putting his neck on the line. Never had I seen him try to be so reckless in his decisions. Either he really didn’t believe there was anything to fear, or he was acting on desperation if he did. “Not a fan either.”
With more force than necessary, Milo tossed the book on the desk. “I don’t have a fucking clue how to proceed then, other than being cautious and waiting. You two have to admit, that’s a horrible plan.”
