Surprisingly, Milo let Derek turn him around. “Oh really? We’re always in for a bit of fun. What’s on tonight’s agenda?”
A sick light gleamed in Derek’s eyes, and he clapped his hands together in his glee. “Turns out, we have a traitor on our hands. Someone who’s been giving out valuable information to their friends.” He tut-tutted like this was all some hilarious game.
Jules’ body turned to rock behind me. Was Derek talking about me? Was he tossing hints that he was talking about them?
And what the fuck were we going to do about it in a room full of fucking Infinity brats?
Lines appeared around Milo’s mouth in what could only be fear. Or anger. And Derek was watching him way too closely to not know something was up.
“What the hell? Who would do that? And why didn’t my father send me a message? He always gives us the traitor jobs.” Milo glanced around like the “traitor” was going to be dragged out by their feet any second.
Derek waved away Milo’s concern. “My dad was the one that sent the text. The elite members are apparently all at a board meeting right now, hashing out some important shit. This was something that came to light a few days ago that called for the meeting tonight. The odd thing is, it’s not someone in the loop. Apparently, it’s just a whore for the group who was so good, secrets were whispered in her ear while they fucked her.” For a second, his gaze fell on me and my heart stopped.
Suddenly, he spun on his heels and faced Cassidy. “Cass, baby. Come here.” He whistled like he was calling his fucking dog.
Where she had been standing awkwardly, probably wondering what the hell she was supposed to do while she waited for him, her spine snapped straight, and fire spit from her gaze.
I turned my head into Jules’ throat. “Please tell me this isn’t happening. Jules, she’s like a sister to me,” I pleaded as I held onto his forearms like they were a lifeline. I didn’t even know what I was pleading for.
She’d been outed, and something bad, bad, bad was about to happen. I’d worked enough jobs on my own and accompanied the guys enough to know that to double cross the organization often meant devastating consequences. And the bitch of it was, Cass had only ever turned traitor for me. Only seducing secrets and passing along false informationfor me, because I wanted to save my sister, because I wanted to save Milo, Jules, and Emmett.
Had I condemned her in my foolish games? My stomach turned to ice as I watched her march over to him, unaware of what she was here for. He probably tracked her down on campus and asked her out in a way she couldn’t refuse.
“Cassidy, baby. We’re going to play a little game. In fact, a platform is being wheeled in right now just for you.”
Her scowl completely disappeared as something horrifying came over her face. Resolve.
She did have some kind of clue what was going to happen tonight, and the bitch still came anyway. I was going to kill her ass myself for not reaching out for help. We could have helped her, but she didn’t fucking ask.
“What, just a little humiliation and beating for the nasty wannabes in the room? I’ve heard about your parties. I’m sure I can take anything you dish out.” She leaned forward, licking the shell of his ear while she met my gaze. “And I’ll like it.”
Derek howled with laughter as he trapped her to him by her arms. “My, my, you are a crazy bitch. I’d heard you were.” He turned back to Milo. “What do you say? Want to help me deliver this particular message?”
Milo let his gaze slide to me, and I had a million things to scream at him with no time to say anything. She’d put herself on the line to save them. They couldn’t let this happen to her. I’d asked her to trust them, and it was my fault. Was he really going to let her ass swing in the wind to save their chance at freedom?
I was almost afraid to see what his answer would be, and how that would irrevocably change the way I felt about them. His gaze softened, and he looked to Jules over my shoulder. They seemed to communicate something silently and come to a decision, because Milo nodded.
“I’m sorry, Derek. I know Cassidy, and she’s no traitor. Let her go. I’ll call my dad and figure out where the information came from.” Milo reached for Cass, but a devil’s grin fell over Derek’s face, and he spun her out of his reach.
“I don’t think that will be happening. You see, Milo. This was actually a test. Pin-up is the actual plant and traitor, but you already know that, don’t you? There wasn’t nearly enough dirt coming in on you three, so we figured they had to be working with you. That you would try and save this whore proves it.”
Cass tried to fight her way free, but he subdued her easily. When she cried out in pain, no one came forward to help her.
Milo seemed shocked, watching the scene in front of him like he was watching through a glass wall. I pulled on Jules’ arms, but he wasn’t letting me go. No, if shit went to hell, I had a feeling he was going to cart me out of here whether I wanted him to or not.
Like the rubber band of reality snapped into place around Milo, he shot into action. Leaping forward, he smashed a hard fist into the side of Derek’s face. One hit was all it took, and Derek’s eyes rolled back in his head. Cass almost fell with him, but wrenched herself free at the last second.
The music had stopped, a large crowd of faceless black clad people formed around us. Shaking his hand out, Milo yelled out over the crowd, “Derek is now on my shit list. He’s to be treated as such. Am I understood?”
The brothers in the crowd all shouted “Yes pres”like they were robots without brains. Except for the twins, who I had no idea how I recognized them in their black crows masks. Maybe because they were the only people I’d seen so far with identical masks.
“Hey, Milo,” one of them said with a smile. “We’re happy to take this beauty off your hands for the night. We even promise to be gentlemen.” The twins boxed her in from each side. She glared at them, then Milo, daring him to send her away.
Milo searched the crowd. “Fine, you can take her, but not to the Shack, not tonight. And for extra insurance… Felix!”
As if out of thin air, Felix materialized in an elaborate joker mask that covered most of his face. I would never have recognized him if he hadn’t responded to Milo.
“I’m here. I can go with them. I know just the place where we’ll be left undisturbed.” He walked around to stand behind Cass. With her heels, she was the same height as the twins, but Felix dwarfed her. Milo was going to get hell later for sending her with them, but I’d fuck his brains out for saving her.
