Also, there was obviously another secret Ty was hiding – how he’d gained admission to CU when it was clear the dean didn’t want him here.
“Fine,” I finally said, my mind made up. I was using this fucked up situation to my advantage and getting answers to the questions that wouldn’t leave me alone. About Ava and Ty. And maybe even if Kage’s feelings for me were really developing the way they seemed to be.
“When do I move?”
“Immediately.”
Chapter 35
Camille
Ileft the dean’s office feeling like I was a piece on a chessboard, strategically moved to achieve a greater objective that I couldn't quite see. I still couldn’t believe I was going to move into a chateau with two guys who each presented their own brand of emotional danger. Maybe even physical danger.
Kage might not be a physical threat to me right now, but Ty? He seemed to hate me. And what if Kage changed his mind and started to believe Ihadkilled his sister?
When I got to my room, I immediately started packing my things back into the boxes that the movers had folded up and stuck in my closet. A couple of hours later, all that was left were a few stray papers and pens, and a single framed photo. Picking it up, I studied the smiling faces captured in that frozen moment. It was a picture of Bianca and me from last summer, a snapshot from a day at the beach, the sunlight glistening on the water behind us as we smiled at the camera. Ava was in the background, barely visible, seated with some other students who’d joined us that day.
God, how things had changed.
A lump formed in my throat. Everything was about to change again.
With everything packed, I sat down and called Bianca. I got her voice mail. Rather than hanging up, I left her a message telling her how much I missed her and how Dad and the dean had decided to move me into one of the chateaus with Kage, of all people. I reassured her that he didn’t think I’d killed his sister, then I shared that there’d be another roommate—the mysterious scarred new student, Mateo Serrello. I did not, however, mention that Ty was the same boy who’d once had my whole heart.
I was going to tell her that face-to-face.
After I hung up, someone knocked on my door. When I opened it, Kage stood there, his hands braced on the upper door jamb. Memories of our kiss made a mess of my insides, my mind, heart, stomach and pussy either clenching or doing somersaults. Fuck, his biceps looked huge when he stood like that.
"I thought you could use some help moving," he said.
“I don’t need your help," I said, still annoyed he was partially responsible for my impending move. My body would just have to calm down.
“I’m parked in the underground garage. Do you have a car here?”
I’m sure he already knew I didn’t.
I sighed. “Fine.” I gestured into the room. “You can take the heaviest ones.”
His lips spread into a genuine smile. “See? We're making progress.”
“If you say so.”
Kage laughed and stepped past me into the room. Before I could protest, he picked up one of the larger boxes—probably theone containing most of my books—and headed out. I picked up a big basket of shoes and followed him down to the garage.
Kage led me to the same Range Rover he’d used to pick me up from the hospital, parked between a Bentley Bacalar and a Porsche. Wealthy families meant fabulous cars at our school. I appreciated Kage bringing over the Range Rover but a part of me wished he’d brought the Bugatti. Not that a single box would fit in that car, but I itched to be inside it again.
With efficient movements, he put the box he carried into the SUV. “Jesus, this is heavy. What do you have in here?”
“Books,” I said.
“What kind of books?”
“Different genres.”
“Erotic romances with guys with huge cocks and girls who like sex with dubious consent?”
I’d moved to put the basket I was carrying into the trunk but at his question I promptly dropped it. Shit. My shoes went all over the place.
I knelt and started tossing shoes back in the basket and Kage did the same.
