I sighed. It’s exactly what he’d already told me. “Thank you. Can you call me again if you see him?”

“What about my money for calling just now?”

“I’ll get it you, I promise. Just call me next time you see him.”

Henry hung up without another word.

I didn’t even hesitate. I fired off a quick text to Kage. I needed to tell him about Henry and the guy Henry had seen with Ava.

When you're free, let me know. Hope you’re having a good day.

“Who are you texting?”

I whirled around. Next to me, Dad’s bodyguard, Gus, stood with his arms crossed over his chest, an arrogant sneer on his face.

“None of your business,” I said.

“You finally got a boyfriend, Camille? That why you wanted to stay here so bad?”

“Aren’t you supposed to be guarding my dad?”

“He sent me to find you. Should I tell him you weren’t in the bathroom like you said you’d be?”

“Whatever, Gus. I’m headed there now.”

I walked away, visited the bathroom, then walked back to my father. When Gus swept his cold gaze over me and made a show of licking his lips, I ignored him. Done speaking with Governor Ferrera, Dad glanced at his watch. “I’m afraid I have to go, darling.” He looked at Georgia, who promptly got on the phone to call his driver.

“It’s okay, Dad,” I said. “It was great spending the day with you.”

I wasn’t totally lying. Even though I was tired and disappointed in general, there’d been moments I’d felt closer to my dad than I had in a long time.

“I’ll come visit again soon. The three of us can have dinner someplace nice,” he said. “I spoke to Bianca yesterday. She said to tell you she’s busy but misses you.”

“Oh, okay.” I appreciated the message but wondered how busy Bianca could be that she couldn’t reach out to me herself. We’d gone from exchanging occasional texts to not communicating at all.

“Take care of yourself, dear.” Dad gave me a kiss then walked away with his team.

I watched him go, suddenly feeling more alone than I had in a long time.

Chapter 64

Camille

Iwas half-way back to the chateau when my phone buzzed. It was a text from Kage.

Sorry I was MIA. Can’t wait to see you back at the chateau and hear about your day.

Smiling, I walked even faster. Soon, the chateau's stone façade greeted me, its windows glowing from the lights inside.

I stepped inside. "Kage?" Silence.

I tried the media room, but it was empty. "Kage?"

I climbed up the stairs.

Ty’s and Kage’s rooms were dark. My bedroom door was closed but light escaped from inside as did the faint sound of music. I opened the door.

Rose petals were scattered everywhere, and lit candles lined the room. Standing in the middle of it all was Kage, still dressed in his nice clothes.
