I did the same. “Thanks for the lift, but you don’t need to stay.”
Ignoring me, he got out of the car, then opened my door.
“Kage—”
“Can your sister or Simone stay with you?”
I sighed. “No. Simone’s out of town and Bianca had plans.”
“You were drugged tonight. I’m staying.”
Growling with frustration, I got out of the car. “Why are you doing this? You’ve never liked me. I was friends with Ava for over a year, and you’ve said more to me tonight than you did during that entire time.”
He shrugged and pocketed his keys. “You’ve never needed my help before. Besides, haven’t you ever heard of the strong, silent type?”
“You’re not silent,” I retorted with a bitter laugh. “You’re a talker. With everyonebutme.”
He stepped up to me, leaned in close and murmured, “Maybe because there are a million other things I’d rather be doing with my mouth when I see you, Camille.”
My jaw dropped.
He took my hand, leading me toward the dorm entrance. After he shoved open the main door, we weaved through the hallways, passing a few students along the way. Almost all of them stumbled when they saw us or stared at Kage with a mixture of awe and fear. I tried taking my hand back, but Kage refused to let go.
When we got to my apartment, Kage pulled a key out of his pocket and unlocked the door. I couldn’t complain since I’d given Bianca a spare key, as well. Still holding my hand, Kage led me inside. There was no sign of Ava. I pulled at my hand and Kage finally let me go.
“Kage—”
He planted his feet and crossed his arms over his chest. “I’m staying.”
“Seriously?”
When he did nothing but stare at me, I rolled my eyes, too tired to argue with him anymore. I headed into my room where I pulled out some clean sheets and blankets. I handed them to Kage, who took them and tossed them on the coffee table. He sat on the couch, thighs splayed and arms spread over the topcushions, making himself comfortable. He motioned for me to sit down next to him. I did, leaving a good amount of distance between the two of us, which made him chuckle.
“You really are scared of me, aren’t you?”
Of course I was, but now that I wasn’t high on Rohypnol, I wasn’t going to admit it. “Hardly. You’ve been nothing but nice, even if you’re acting bossy as hell and yelled at me for letting Billy buy me those?—”
I gasped when Kage lunged at me, quick as a snake, and half-dragged and half-lifted me until I straddled his lap. He accomplished the transfer in seconds, as easily as if I was a cat he’d wanted to pet. He didn’t grind against me, just held me there, but it didn’t matter. His cock pressed against my ass like it was ready to storm the gates.
I braced my hands against his chest. “What the hell are you doing?” My heart pounded so hard I was afraid Kage could hear it.
He cupped my hips in his palms. “Making a point,” he growled. “Don’t get the wrong idea about me, Rebel.Niceis the last thing I am.”
I shook my head in confusion. “Then why did you help me? Why are you here?”
“Because I want something from you. Something someone intended totake. I would never let that happen, even if you weren’t going to give it to me. But you are.”
I stared at him, my mind spinning with what he’d just implied. “You really are psycho!” I tried to fling myself off him.
His hands on my hips tightened, keeping me in place.
“We’re not having sex!”
“No, we’re not.”
I stopped fighting him. “But you just said?—"
“I might be part monster but you were just roofied. So I’m going to let you go and you’re going to go into your bedroom, leave your door ajar, and go to sleep. I’ll stay and make sure you’re okay. That’s all.”
