Holy shit. Were those from Serpent?
“Are you okay?” I blurted out.
“Are you?” he asked, his voice filled with concern.
I shook my head and tried to pull away. “Please. Let me go.”
Grim faced, he scanned the area, searching for the cause of my distress.
“Camille!”
I turned to see Kage standing at the end of the hall. He took a few steps toward us.
“Stop,” Dante barked.
Kage froze but he looked pissed.
Dante turned to me. “Do you want to talk to Kage?”
I shook my head, refusing to look at him. Either of them.
“Damn it, Camille,” Kage said. “Let me?—"
“Your conversation with Camille is over, Kage.” I sucked in a breath because Dante’s voice wasn’t just firm—it was Do Not Fuck with Me firm. Dante knew how powerful Kage’s family was and who Kage was destined to become, but he didn’t care.
Dante took my hand. “Come with me.”
I shot one last glance at Kage, who clenched his fists as if he was having to physically restrain himself from coming after us and ripping me away from Dante.
“Don’t worry about Kage.” Dante said gruffly. He guided me down the hall in the opposite direction and toward the formal dining hall. “Have you eaten?”
I shook my head, feeling nauseas.
“How about we grab something?”
“I’m not hungry.”
“You need to eat?—”
I pulled away. “Please, just take me back to my dorm.” A heavy sigh escaped me. “Only it’s her place, too.”
“Ah.” Dante’s eyes flashed with understanding. “It was Ava who upset you.”
“She…” I paused and wet my lips. “She told everyone I used drugs just like my mom.” My voice broke, giving way to tears again, but I didn’t care. Dante already knew about my relationship with my mom. I took comfort in that.
“Alright. Come on.” He guided me toward an exit.
I blinked. “Where are we going?”
“Do you care as long as we’re going off campus?”
No. No, I did not.
Chapter 10
Kage
Anger pulsated through me as I watched Camille walk away with Dante Morillo. My body vibrated with the need to go after them. The only thing that stopped me was seeing how upset Camille had been. She’d had fucking tears in her eyes, and if leaving with Dante would make them go away, I’d force myself to stand down. Plus, I had other things to see to.
