Page 108 of Where We Fall

“Come here. I haven’t tasted these lips in days, but it feels like a damn eternity.”

He pulls me back into his arms and slams his lips onto mine. We both groan instantly. It’s like coming home. Every single part of my body comes alive when his lips are on me.

I’m not sure how long we kiss, but neither of us seems in a rush to break apart.

He eventually pulls away but leaves his hands on my cheeks.

“What time are you leaving?” he asks.

I cringe. “Right now.”

His eyes open wide. “Right now? You mean I was seconds away from missing you?”

I smile up at him. “You made it. That’s all that matters. But I really do have to get going so I can meet the truck at the storage unit.”

“Okay. I’ll come with you.”

“Don’t you have like…stuff to work out?”

The number of things he needs to get in order to move must be a mile long. I want to question this, ask him if he’s sure again, but I don't want to make him think I don't want this.

“I have a ton of shit to work out,” he laughs. “But right now, I want to help you get settled in. I can come back gradually and get it all figured out.”

As we walk out of the apartment, the realization of his moving away hits me.

“Oh my God,” I gasp as I stop in my tracks.

“What?” he asks concerned.

“Your parents are going to hate me. You’re gonna be so far away from them.”

He laughs loudly. “My parents don’t hate you.”

“They already know?”

“Of course. They were the first ones I called. They fully support my decision. Ma says she thinks it’s the right one.”

“She actually said that?” I ask.

He grabs my hand and leads me toward the front of the building.

“She said if I love you, I need to take care of you. And if taking care of you means moving to Chicago, then that’s what I’m going to do.”

I chew on my bottom lip as I try to hide the smile that wants to break free. I don’t know how I got so lucky. Marcus is so much more than I could have ever dreamed of.

“Good. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if they blamed me.”

He wraps an arm around me. “No way, babe. They can tell what we have. Can you follow me back to my place? It’s only ten minutes away. I can drop my car off and throw some things in a suitcase.”

I glance down at my watch. It’ll be tight, but it’s doable. Plus, Grace will be there with her husband to help. They set it all up for me and have the keys. I could always count on them to open the unit for the guys.

“Yeah, we have time. We have to make it fast, though.”

“This will be the only situation where my speed will impress the hell out of you,” he says with a wink.
